    Old Savage Safe to shoot??

I purchased a 1899 Savage that was manufactured in 1907 the Gun is in about 75 to 80%. Most of the bluing is gone on the reciever 90% of blueing is still on the barrel. The inside of the action is pristene the rifling is very good and sharp. Crown is in good shape. There is a slight crack about 2" long on one side & back of the tang. Action & wood is all very tight. The gun is chambered for 30-30. Is it safe to fire 30-30 leverevolution ammo in this old of a Savage. The barrel is marked SAVAGE HI-PRESSURE STEEL.
    Thanks,

    GMB

P.S. I am new here. First post.

The best advice I can give you is to take the rifle to a competent gunsmith and have them inspect it.

I'd go for it if the serial number is over 110,000, thats when they started heat treating the receivers. Under 110 and I'd worry about the leverevolutions a bit, they pack a few more ponies.

Just shoot standard ammo through an antique like what you have.No sense in turning it into a parts gun for a selling gimmick for speed. The 30-30 is powerful enough to set a white tail on its hinny instantly with reasonable shot placement.Forget the speed as it doesnt even matter in that cartridge. You can get the stock fixed with out a doubt.
Willing to give back for what the sport has done for me!
