Sorry to hear this .
I am a recent member and have learned quite a bit in my short time here.
Effective 8/30/2025 I will be shutting down this site and forum.
Rest assured that I did not come to this decision lightly, but it's a decision I have been struggling with for the last 5-6 years as site traffic, interaction on the forum, and revenue from paid memberships have continually been in decline since 2015. It has now reached the point to where it is just not fiscally justifiable to keep the site up and running as we are down to just two advertisers and well under 100 paid members.
Admittedly, part of this decision also stems from my own loss of interest in recent years. After 24 years I'm simply ready to move on even though it's hard to walk away from something I've invested soo much time in over the years.
Effective 6/1/2025 I have disabled paid memberships and new user registrations.
Effective 8/1/2025 I will disable new posts for the classifieds section.
Effective 8/30/2025 the site will be taken down.
I would personally like to thank everyone who has made this site the great community it has been over the last 24 years, and especially those who stepped up to submit articles and/or serve as a moderator on the forum. The people here and their shared knowledge and experiences are what made this such a great and welcoming community.

Thank you for all you have done. This forum will be missed as so many that have shut down in the last few years. Sign of the times. 24 years is a notable accomplishment for anyone to be proud of. Whatta Hobby!

I'll miss the site. I check it out most days. Learned a lot from the stickies and the opinions/knowledge of others. It's evident a lot of work went into developing and maintaining the site. Good luck to you.
Wow Jim, Thanks for the ride. I've been around for a long minute but haven't been around nearly as much as in the early years. I get the changing interests and appreciate all the work you put in here. It took a lot of passion on your part to keep it going. Fun is fun and work is work and when the work outweighs the fun time to weigh the options. I don't think it helped when nearly all aspects of the rifles we love became less DIY hardware store projects and more parts swap.
I can't thank you enough for the knowledge and hate to see it go by the wayside.
May your future endeavors be FUN profitable and not as taxing.
All the best to you and yours.

I'll miss this site too. Thank you for running it for so long.
There is a ton of good people on here that have been incredibly helpful. Thank you for giving us a place to connect!
It'll be missed!
Sad news. Thanks for your efforts that made it what it is.

Echo comments above and will miss this forum a lot. I've learned a tremendous amount about Savage's here 110/10 platform in particular.
Running a forum takes a lot of time, money, dedication, and passion. I own and manage a small one and there are times I wonder if it's worth continuing, someday I may make the same decision.
My sincere gratitude for all you've done for the Savage community, this is the go to source for all things Savage.
Thanks for letting me be a part of the team and wish you all the best in the future.
I’m not on the site nearly as much as I used to be but I surely have learned a lot over the years. I will definitely miss the forum! Thanks Jim, I appreciate everything!

I can't believe you put up with the likes of us for 24 years!! You are certainly a better man than I, Gunga Din.
I salute you and wish you the best, and my heartfelt thanks for running this place as long as you have.
What charlie b said!!
You Sir will be missed!! Can't believe I didn't get kicked off the forum for running my mouth.

is it possible to get some sort of archive of the entire site? i dont want to loose all the info.
I could archive it in my unraid server. i also dont know anything about web hosting, but if there was some feasible way to keep it online and accessible i would try to help with that.
J. Baker, You have done a super job running this site, it is one of the best there is. Sorry to see you close it, Sir. Regards, M. W.////. MW007

Sad to see yet another great site close, Understanding times change. I am just glad I was able to enjoy your hard work. Hopefully you are going on to do something enjoyable, or maybe do nothing for awhile
Thank you

I can believe it. We both joined in December of 2006!!! Over the years, you are one of the people that I listened to and agreed with the most! Can't believe I didn't get kicked off the forum for running my mouth.
You LISTED TO me??? Hope I didn't cause you any problems. Boy oh boy are YOU in trouble!!
You say "joined in December of 2006"? Seemed further back than that. The forum DID have problems at one time and a bunch of us got dumped and had to re up. Thinking closer to mid to late 70s but I've slept a bunch since then so I could be wrong.
Looking like LOTS of forums are shutting down, as least the ones that catch my interests.
Savage Shooters was one of the first ones I hit every morning and a few times during the day.
Will be hard to adjust my routine.
There are a few folks that moved over to Accurate Shooters but they're still around. Savage Arms will keep hanging in there!!

Thanks J. Baker, Fred and all the crew. Have learned tremendous amounts of Savage and shooting knowledge from you all. I will miss this site and all the information in it. Made a few friends and bought, traded and sold parts and rifles. It was nice having a site devoted to Savage rifles. Us Savage shooters are treated like yesterday's garbage on some sites. First rifle i built/assembled was on a model 12 action. Got it from NSS that I found through this site along with a barrel. Sent the action to Fred again from this site. He timed and tried, installed Timney trigger that I got from someone here. Found stock I wanted local and had to buy whole rifle to get it. Worked out for me, after I sold the barreld action on here. Sold the scope and rings on here. I ended up with the stock I wanted and a extra couple hundred dollars. I put it all together and it is a excellent shooting rifle. However I k ow i am also part of the problem, I love to read but not post much. Been around since 2008 and less than 40 posts I think. Due to health problems I couldn't afford to pay membership at times. I also see Mr. Bakers points on moving on and the costs, time and other things associated with running a site. I can imagine dealing with scammers, bots and othe evil internet heathens is a major pain. So will miss it, have some good memories. Layed up in a hospital bed for 3 months one time and this site and another kept me going. I love to read but it has to be something interesting to me. All the info here met those needs during my hospital vacations. So again thanks to everyone who built, maintained, wrote articles posted pics and so on. Hopefully it works out and Mr. BAKER can save the articles and things for future reading. It's been a great ride.

Funny how that "notice" (shutting down) has brought on a few more posts than usual. Maybe should have posted THAT earlier?![]()

Total newbie here, but I'm really curious why the site has been losing paid members and sponsors given that there has been staggering growth in PRS over the last decade.
Is the root cause of the site closing down because Savage haven't built a rifle optimally suited to the growing market and everyone is leaving Savage for rifle makers who are competing?
Curious to hear opinions.
I wouldn't say it has anything to do with that. Those serious about competitive shooting aren't going to start with a Savage anyway, and those who do do so "just to try it out" to see if they like the game and ultimately switch to something better suited if they decide to stick with it. For the cartridges dominating the sport and the multitude of positions one is shooting from, the Savage platform just isn't ideal. Most would agree you really want a CRF action for the somewhat shorter cases and long bullets, and Savage hasn't offered a CRF action for almost 2 decades now and what they did offer back in the day wasn't all that great of a CRF action to begin with.
As to what has caused the decline, I'd say the list is pretty long - some of it in our control, much of it not. Times change, people's behaviors and how they want to interact change, their interests change, etc. It's all the same reasons so many other forums have died off or completely disappeared in recent years.
Since 2018 we've had about 14k new members join the forum. Of those roughly 14k, only 540 have ten or more posts on the forum. Of those 540 with 10 or more posts, only 173 have even logged into the site since January 1 of this year.
Doing another query, there are only 415 registered members of this forum who have made or replied to a post since January 1 of this year. Of those 415, only 193 have 10 posts or more.

@J.Baker - is there any way to get the Wayback Machine (archive.org) to take a full copy of the forum before this trove of useful information & discussion vanishes permanently?
