    Federal 7/233 Ihmsa brass

I recently discovered this brass. I realize it is a older produced product. I intend to try it out in a 20" custom contender barrel. Does anyone have any opinions about this brass? Any insight to share. If it turns out to be good brass I would like more of it.

That’s a cool find and should still be good brass. It’s not all that easy to find, though. Who made your barrel?

Way back when, federal made some high-quality brass for some not-so-common calibers, including the 6x47. I used it to form 6x47 AI for an Ingram barrel, and the brass was as good as one could get: it was properly annealed, flash holes were consistent, lengths and weights had minimal tolerances -- and they seemed to last a long time, too. I'm anxious to hear how this rare find works out for you!

I saw some of the 6x47 brass on GB awhile back. Seems like it was stamped “6x47 Match” and was nickel. For some reason I didn’t watch until the auction ended to know how much it brought.

For some reason, a plain-Jane 6x47 sounds appealing right now. I certainly don't need it, but those smaller 6mms have always held a special place in my heart. I certainly burned through a ton of 6mm-.223 ammo back in the 80s and 90s, and while many consider it marginal for game, the 80 grain Sierra SSP racked up an impressive string on clean kills on a variety of game.

I need to close this page before nostalgia has me looking for components and another barrel LOL...

I picked up a new SSK 6x47 14” barrel last year. Some test rounds are ready to go but I still need to do some fitting work on the forend yet. Other than that, it’s ready to roll.

I grabbed a set of dies several years ago when I saw them available on an auction site, then immediately started collecting 222 Rem mag brass. It was still reasonably priced back then. I’m starting with the 87 gr V-Max.

Sorry for the delay in response. The barrel has no manufacturer info at all. It's marked 7tcu on the bottom of the barrel lug. Also the scope mounting holes are moved forward. Like a Bullberry barrel. I need to fit new dovetail inserts . It looks in great shape.
