    Model 10 XP 22-250

For some reason I have long been interested in this caliber and came upon a good deal on a used one from a local FFL I know. The rifle shoots well at the range (Vortex Diamondback Tactical MOA) but the trigger pull is 6 pounds on my RCBS scale. I assume this older rifle (12/2012 by serial number) is a non-adjustable trigger. Short of buying a new assembly is there anything I can do to ease this back to about 2-3lbs?

I have no gun-smithing skills so probably a new assembly is my best reasonable choice but thought to ask here first. If I have to go with a new trigger assembly what's my best option? I figure this subject has already been beat to death but please go easy on me!

    Thanks,
    Kenn

Kenn, the answer to every question ever asked about a Savage rifle is on this site. The best thing You can do as a new member is learn to search this site. Start with Home at the top left of this page and take it from there. There are many answers to Your question and in the end it will end up Your personal choice. Welcome to the Brotherhood! Oh, and You can just Google Your question and insert the word Savage, and likely as not it will direct You to this site.

    GrenGuy,

Thank you for the advice. I did do a search earlier before posting. The more one searches the more information comes up and it all gets kind of confusing after a bit.
The M*CARBO kit seems like a good start.

    Thanks,
    Kenn

A question that should not have been asked then.
    Thank You,

Your trigger is more than likely adjustable. Adjusting trigger pull weight can be adjusted as is or by changing the trigger return spring. Maintaining sear engagement is critical.
I am sorry, I may have mispoke.

    Accutrigger or no?

If so it’s easy but shouldn’t be that heavy at all.
If not there is still some adjusting that can be done to lighten it some. These can be made into very nice hunting triggers.

Just need to know which you have so we can give the right info. And like mentioned above, using the search function can easily get you to this info on the proper ways to adjust them(you tube as well).

Accutrigger is as easy as using the accutrigger tool and turn counterclockwise to lighten the spring.

Here is an article on this site showing the adjustment in a non accutrigger. This is for the 3 screw version. If yours is a 2 screw version it won’t have an adjustment screw for seat adjustment, so just skip that part.

    JARD Triggers

I have 2 Savages, 6 BR and 20 Practical, both have JARD triggers. No issues ever with either one.

I just ordered a JARD trigger. That should sort my trigger issue very well.
