    30BR / .308 benchrest

was nosing around the auction sites out of boredom...which usually results in some sort of impulse buy.

Saw a listing for the Remington custom shop gun in .30BR, and was thinking at some point ages ago i saw a few SP's...maybe XP's?..in .30br.

curious as to where anyone here has worked with the .30BR in any format. Appears to be an easy one to shoot, looks like 7BR brass necked up.

That's one I always hoped to get into but never did. I ran across one back in the 80s. A guy who used to frequent the local gun range had an XP with a full bull barrel in .30 br. I don't recall if it came from the Rem Custom Shop or if he had it done elsewhere, but it certainly had my attention. It was center-grip design and had a gorgeous finger-groove stock on it.

Back then, XPs on the used market were fairly inexpensive. I wish I had the foresight to buy up a bunch and save them. Nowadays, one would almost have to mortgage the farm to get an XP-100.

I have an OTT SS Encore in 30 BR, it's easy to reload for and shoots like a dream, The 30 BR was designed to shoot light weight bullets 115, 125 and 130's I do have data for 150's but haven't shot any in my barrel.

i ordered a set of Redding .30BR dies, as well as couple hundred pcs of 7BR brass....when those arrive, will anneal necks, & take them to .30 cal.

Ironically...a few months ago i sold off all my 7BR brass that had sat here for years, as i finally decided i'd never do anything with it....classic poor timing.

Saw a fair bit of load data on 6BR.com :

The one i found was a Rem custom shop Model 7KS....i've hunted with the 7KS guns is several calibers, and when not carrying around contenders or contender carbines, if i am packing a bolt gun its often one of those. Have seen a very few posts about them in 7BR over the years but never seen one in person; always thought that would be a nice package, as they are in the 5-1/2 to 6 pound range and they point & carry well for me.

From what i can tell, the 30BR appears to be unfired. I kin of recall hearing about a 30BR in an XP, and have owned a couple of them in 7BR...the 30BR in that rifle grabbed by interest.

"Maybe a little OT but", had the hots for a 6.8 SPC. Found a piece of brass at the range, had never seen one and didn't know anything about it. Not too much info on the 6.8 SPC on a bolt gun platform at the time so I built one on a Savage platform.
Did the barrel/chamber thing and built my shooter but got to thinking, if the "30 BR" (at the time) was such a hot item, why not a 6.8 BR???
Love building wildcats SO, necked a Lapua 6BR case to 6.8, stuffed a bullet in it seated to the shoulder/neck junction, shipped it out and had a reamer cut to those/MY specs. Got a note from the reamer maker that it was a FIRST for them in that caliber. It shoots BUG HOLES. Not much in the way of recoil and turned out to be a fun shooter. Be wild on an XP platform.

    30BR / .308 benchrest

I have a .30BR in a bench gun, Kelbly Panda, I neck up Lapua 6BR in a single pass with a tapered Redding size button then turn the case necks to .01. I am currently shooting 118 grain Bib or 118 grain Ammerman bullets with VVN130 and Federal GM 205M primers. My barrel is a 17 twist Kreiger and it’s very accurate.

Just as an aside, I also have an XP in 6mmBR that’s a really good shooter.

Redding dies arrived, along with brass, and a couple different scope bases....been waffling on what scope is going to end up going on it.

Starting to feel hot & muggy most days now, so will have plenty of time to do the case prep, as i tend to lose my enthusiasm for shooting when the heat index creeps up.
