New 110 elite impulse .33prc Didn't do break in

    Hey all,

New to the group and long distance shooting, I just purchased a Savage 110 Elite precision impulse chambered in .300PRC. Ive fired around 500 rounds through it and cleaned after every outing usually around 60 to 80 rounds each. I ve just been reading about break in on new barrels and cleaning after small groups. is it possible i messed up the barrel by not doing this and also letting the barrel get hot before taking breaks? all new to me so just figuring things out.

    Thanks
    Alex

Ya know, this has been discussed for as long as I have been shooting and everyone has their opinion on what is the best method. Some shoot three shot and clean a new rifle. Some clean after each shot for five shots then after 5 etc. Some don't clean it until accuracy falls off.
Big question is what kind of accuracy were you seeing when new and how is it now? Of course the other question is have you been shooting the same load?

If you cleaned it well and never got the barrel smoking hot you are probably OK. The barrel life for that cartridge is probably less than 2000 rounds anyway.
I am sorry, I may have mispoke.
