    Savage Super Sporter

Recently inherited the pictured Savage .250-3000 Super Sporter. Has no other identifying marks than the ones pictured. I've seen these before with a different stock, but none with the plain one fitted to this rifle. Hoping the knowledgeable folks here can tell me more about it.

Nice inheritance! This is a pretty thorough write up:

I think he’s wrong about the stock. My understanding is that the schnabel stock and side button mag release was a later variant, although there was a fair bit of overlap. Savage discontinued production when they received the contract to make Lend-Lease Enfields for England. Magazines come in two capacities, 3-round (2 inspection holes) and 4-round (3 inspection holes). I like to have spares, but they’re being offered at $100 and up these days. The Super Sporter ejection port is small, resulting in a very stiff receiver that contributes to its reputation for accuracy. The action partially cocks on opening and completes cocking on closing. The trigger is a very simple military style that is commonly dissed by trigger snobs, of which I am not one. The 250-3000 has an interesting story, but I’ve never owned one. Enjoy!

Super helpful, thanks Model24! I find the trigger has a good clean break, though definitely wouldn't be mistaken for a Timney.
