    110 sear talk

Back in the day I would pick up this or that and find the bolt closing would be very rough. Before the bolt head was up on the abutments the trigger would catch the sear causing you to force the lugs up onto the top of the abutments. I always figured the sear was not bent correctly for that combination of parts. I know Fred knows the right answer but has anybody found a worthwhile fix. Or is it just buy all new sear and trigger and hope for the best.(it wasn't always easy to get those parts.) I like it when I have gone through one and the bolt closes smoothly.
I am sorry, I may have mispoke.

I bent the sear myself until it would engage correctly. Was not hard to do and you only needed a a few hundreds of thousands of a bend for proper sear face to notch engagement. Then I would polish the heck out of the sear engagement face and change the sear engagement angle with a slight touch of a dremel grinder. The polish the engagement face with some ceramic polishing stones. If a guy took his time and went slow it worked very well.

Sometimes no bending was required just work at it slowly and change the angle of the sear face until it just engaged the notch.

Wear some strong readers with about 2X magnification and you can see the hangup and what you need to so to fix it.

Yes Fred, . Sears where so hard to find back in the day, and the rumor was they will break easily so I never tried to bend it. I did consider annealing and rehardening. Probably warp anyway. I dont mess with that stuff anymore, I just wanted to get the Savagesmiths thinking. It isn't just swapping barrels.

Topics on making your action better are not around much anymore. Jim has captured a lot, and that stuff probably draws in a lot of guys who don't get involved in the dialog.
So if you are not a DYI guy I can promise having a SSS tuned action is the bees knees. Otherwise, carefully try some things on your own. Ask the questions, and maybe you get blessd with some info.

I can do a lot but trigger work is a mystery to me. I'm blessed to have an SSS tuned action plus another from a former member that is every bit as good. They are my 2 favorite rifles to shoot.
