What color or metal is the action, stainless or black CS? It is possible that the stock may not be original.

Black plastic stock with rubber recoil pad.all it says on barrel is savage M12 223cal.im wondering which variant it is.

Model 12 FVSS centerfeed.
"As long as there's lead in the air....there's still hope.."
Nice score, now shoot it! Try some good factory ammo, not the cheap stuff.
It's very accurate reloading with 60gr SP over 4064.ive been looking at stocks and can't find stock info for this gun .is the action and barrel the same.as a different model.
Boyd's gunstocks should have a model 12 option if you want to go that route
OP said it has a 4rd fixed mag so not a target model.
The fvss and bvss are small shank receivers with magazines, not the target receiver. I believe they are the same as the 110 series short action but best to measure screw spacing.
Another Senior moment! Read it and passed right thru.
4 round fixed max, then I am taking this as a Blind mag. So Center feed or Stagger feed? I have a Model 10 223 Blind Mag, Stagger feed. The two use different action screw spacing. Stagger feed is shorter than Center feed.
Your Model 12 will have the same specs as the other short action variants (model 10, 11, etc,) as far as action screw spacing, of that particular year's production (2009?). Savage altered the action screw spacing on the short actions a couple of times along their long production timeline, so you can have identical appearing actions with different screw spacing. The latest, current short action 110 series are different from the earlier versions. I have the same model 12 as yours, but 1999 production (pre AccuTrigger) with blued instead of stainless steel, and it is an extremely accurate rifle....enjoy yours!
