    Stevens model 75A

I'm resurrecting a Stevens model 75 A pump .22 for a friend. It appears to be the same as the Savage model 29A. No serial number, nothing printed on the barrel except for .22 S, L, LR. Stevens model 75 A is on left side of receiver.
Just trying to figure out when this thing was made. Stevens Model 75 and Savage model 29 seem to be the same and made from about 1929-39!!?? Can't find any reference that dates the 75A.

It is a version of the Savage Model 29-A, a totally different action internally than the Savage Model 29 & Stevens Model 75 which both used the same basic action design with just a few minor differences. There seem to be no firm introduction date for the Model 29-A action, but it seems to have been late 1938 to early 1939 based on when iot shows up in parts catalogs. Savage does not appear to have made house branded pump 22's after WWII, so the Stevens Model 75-A are early in an estimated 1938-to-1943 time frame. The Stevens 75-A was probably a special model for Spiegel and is not listed in any Savage or Stevens catalogs. The Spiegel pumps had standard grooved forearms, checkered stock like the Savage version but with a steel buttplate instead of hard rubber and they had the barrels drilled & tapped for scope blocks to mount special versions of Mossberg scopes sold by Spiegel.

The serial number is on the lower front of the receiver just under the magazine tube and on the underside of the buttplate and rear of the stock. Examples of 75-A's I've seem are all under 11,000 and there was a name change by about 12,600 so I don;t expect any to be over that.

I knew you'd step up with the info I needed! Mine is exactly as you described it! I did find it in my antique issue of Brownell's encyclopedia of firearms dated 1960, but no history, just a parts breakdown.
    Thanks for your help!!

Found the ser# 11132 with a K underneath. Cool to know that the D&T on the barrel is original!!

That's the highest serial number I've heard of for a 75-A. They changed the name to Stevens Model 29-A by serail number 12681(note: Stevens, not Savage), these were the same configuration. Later the name changed again to Stevens Model 49. The serial numbers do not reflect the numbers for different marked versions of the 29-A, all were serial numbered together, so it's the total of all different house brand as well as Stevens and Savage branded guns. The K under the number was used on Stevens and house brands, Savage marked guns used the letter L, I have seen two examples of guns with the wrong letter for what they were.

Not mentioned above, but these also should have a hooded non-ramp front sight. The sight will look like a standard one if the hood is gone but there will be grooves for a hood. Numrich has hoods the correct size.

Front sight doesn't look original, no slot for a hood!
The other weird thing, the take down screw bushing has no threads in it. I ordered a new bushing and the take down screw doesn't fit, it's half, not full thread and it's slightly tapered and bigger at the front of the screw. I ordered a new screw that's fully threaded and will probably have to replace the bushing, too.
These old timers can be real head scratchers!!

Here's the correct takedown screw, but they are out - https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/113610c
    Here's the takedown screw bushing - https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/117430a

The bushing goes in the left side and the takedown screw goes in the left too, the bushing keeps the takedown screw spaced away from the receiver. I see them occasionally that have had the screw put in on the right, doing that leaves radial scratches in the bluing. The threaded bushing keeps the takedown screw from falling out when taken down.

There's the other weird thing, the bushing on this one is in the right side!! The pictured bushing is the replacement I have, and I have the take down screw on order from Jack First! Mybe it's a Friday gun made from leftover parts!! :)

The hole on the right side is supposed to be threaded, possibly someone stripped out the threads and added a bushing to solve the issue, you still will need a bushing on the left for the threads and to reduce the diameter of the hole.

Here's an example that looks correct except fo the sights, the rear is a replacement Marble's, and I assume the front is a replacement too, it's not hooded and looks to be in better condition than the gun.

The front sight on mine looks the same but the rear is different.
I'll have to wait until the screw gets here and go from there!!

FINALLY received the take down screw after it got the USPS ten day USA tour! Got to shoot it yesterday and it functions and shoots great! Wish I could have kept it but it was returned to a very happy owner, who immediately gave me another rifle for a face lift!
