    MCARBO kit non-threaded trigger fix!

So I recently purchased a savage axis in .350 legend for whitetail hunting in the lower half of Michigan. For the money it puts down deer and is a blast to shoot. My only gripe is the trigger pull is painfully stiff. I found the MCarbo trigger kit and purchased it only to find out it won’t work with my style of trigger due to the spring retainer hole not being threaded. After looking for a solution online I put a few ideas I saw together and did some brainstorming and found a solution I think is pretty good! I bought a 5/32 x 3/4” roll pin and hammered it into the hole. It fits real snug (definitely not coming loose) and is almost the perfect length! I trimmed mine down about 1/16” after getting it hammered flush with the bottom of the hole just to be safe, but I’m sure you could just hammer it farther instead of trimming.I have to say I’m pretty happy with the outcome!

Did Savage change the return spring design? Mine has a threaded hole for the small part of the spring to thread into and this allows for some trigger adjustment with the little 'yellow knob' tool that came with the gun. The kit has a set screw that threads into that hole.

I'd be temped to drill/tap the hole to be able to use that set screw.

Without that overtravel screw you'll have to punch that pin in or out until you reduce the overtravel to the desired amount.

I liked the spring kit but wanted better adjustment so bought the MCarbo trigger.

I’m not exactly sure what rifles get what trigger, I bought mine in I believe October 2024 and it didn’t have a threaded hole. I wanted to tap it but the trigger is hardened so I put that idea to the side. As for as making it the right length I just punched it flush and then cut it down to match the length of the mcarbo provided screw. Seems to have a good amount of travel for me although I’m not super picky.

Awesome solution! I'm planning on ordering same kit. I guess I'll find out what pin I have when I disassemble...
