    B22 FV-SR action screws

Elsewhere on this site there is a thread regarding the action screws for the B22 Precision which discusses solutions to the problem of the heads popping off the action screws. My son and I have matching B22 FV-SR rifles, and one of his action screws "popped" yesterday. I have found that our action screws are 12 - 32tpi (NOT #12 - 28tpi, as reported in the B22 Precision thread). Our rifles were purchased in 2022.

    I am still searching for a supplier of 12 - 32tpi screws.

The only place you'll find them is Savage. If you do find that thread pitch elsewhere, it will never be the right length or head type. The best solution is to open them up to 1/4" -28 and never look back.

A solution to the B22 action screw was found. DIP, Inc., in Post Falls, Idaho sells action screws which are #12 - 32tpi X 1" long. While these screws are too long for use on the B22 without modification, they can be easily trimmed to length by a reasonably adept craftsman. The heads of the replacement screws are the same size as the OEM action screws for the B22, but differ in that they are Torx (T20) style heads. As of this date, DPI offers a pair of the action screws for $4.97. I'd post a photo of the "head popped" action screw and the new replacements . . . but I do not have a URL site which hosts the annotated photo. (It is saved only on my hard drive.)

NOTE: I did check multiple "standard" sources for "off the shelf" fasteners, and didn't find any listings for #12-32 fasteners - nor any listings for #12-32 taps or dies! So it appears the Savage action screws are indeed er, um, unique.

While I have found ordering parts from Savage to be easy at times in the past. I couldn't seem to connect with them at all in recent weeks . . . and wanted to get the disabled rifle back in operation quickly.

I thought I put up a response on this thread yesterday.(?) Perhaps it is still waiting for admin review/approval?

I went on a wide ranging search for another source for replacement screws. The screws are #12-32tpi . . . and there are NO such screws "off-the-shelf" from standard sources of fasteners. In fact there seems to be no such thing as #12-32tpi taps or dies! But DPI, Inc of Post Falls, Idaho lists a pair of action screws for the Savage MK II - #12-32 X 1" length. The screw heads are a match for the B22 action screws except for being Torx (T20). These screws are too long for straight away replacement of the action screws in the B22 - but any relatively adept craftsman can shorten them as needed. I ordered some sets of the screws and modified them as needed - and my son's B22 is now back in operation! NOTE: I'd post a photo, but I don't have any photos on a linkable URL site.

Great that you found those and was able to 'make it so'. I only run my action screws at about 15-20 ip, since the action is snug laterally so I'm not worried about shifting. Even an inexpensive Wheeler analog torque gage is worth the investment if you did-assemble often.
As for Photo sites,, I use Postimage dot org. It's free, has many options for linking to web-sites etc, and simple to organize into 'Albums' like for different guns, birds and other topics.
