Yesterday I had my first opportunity to ring steel out to 300 yds. I am an avid collector of old military rifles, so I had a Mauser, SKS, and my Garand with me. My buddy had a K31 and his SKS. I also brought my .308 with a 4-16x40 scope.

After shooting a bit, we decided to stretch the legs on our rifles and go for the 300 yd steel plates. He chose the K31 and I wanted to see what an SKS is capable of with me behind it. He could get close, but failed connect. I hit the steel (with irons) 6/10 times!

After that success, I grabbed the .308 and shot high with the scope at full power! After turning it down to 4x, I was able to repeatedly ring the steel.

Anyone else better with irons than a scope? I figure I missed because at full magnification movement looks exaggerated vs at low power.... Thoughts?
