Got it down to about a 2 inch group. I'll work on filling pores in the stock and then bed it. Just have spent to much time on it right now.Too much to do. Then work up a load. Got 6 months to deer season so still have plenty of time.

Just an update . Got receiver bedded with a very light bedding. Free floated barrel full length. Just have to load up some bullets to test. It finally stopped raining, so I should be able to get out this week. I'll get some pictures.

After bedding the Monti Carlo stock I tried some 165 grain vs 180 round nose. 165 wins. As far as being a light weight the Monti Carlo adds 5 oz and the heavier scope added another^ oz.What first got me interested in this rifle was how light it felt. I've changed scopes to a 1.5x4x20 and tried it back in the original stock and it weight was 7lb6oz!
So I may trim down the Monti Carlo to loose the weight . The original stock is in such good shape I'm going to keep it on the side for now. Maybe sell it, not sure.I guess there isn't a real collector value in it unless someone was really into old Savages.
I found 3 spots where the barrel was just barely touching so a little more in letting and now some load development .

Just an update. Took off the hump on the Monti Carlo stock but I'm waiting for a MGW scope base 1 piece type. Having trouble getting scope back far enough using the 2x7x33 leupold scope. Its light weight and can sit low but need it back farther to be comfortable shooting.May do a little more thinning of forearm on stock and re due checkering. Want to get it as light as possible. I was actually looking at the savage ultra light when I came across this one.

Got my new scope base.Fit perfect. Had to cut off the front end a little and trim down a little to get the scope low as possible. Put on a slip on recoil pad to so when winter comes and I have an inch or more of coats on the scope will still have correct eye relief.
Loaded up some 150 then 165 to get scope zeroed in. New base moved zero over about 10 inches to the right. Weird.
The last 2 shots grouped about 1 inch and barrel was hot. Still have to move it over a couple inches.And then work up some loads for 165 partitions.
