    AICS bottom metal kit

Ordered this kit from EABCO. Screws are to long. Was told to contact accurate mag as this is where they got it from. Contacted them. Was told I need to cut the screws for proper size. To long currently. Anyone that ordered this kit have to cut the screws to fit? Thanks.

Does it fit correct in the inlet in your stock- and when being held in place position the mag in the correct location to feed? If it does then shortening the screws is an easy fix. Or run to the hardware store and pick up some new shorter ones.

I used this bottom metal once but it's been years.... had some small issues getting things right-- but think it was more with the inlet issue, the trigger guard would not sit in a position that it would match up with the magwell- but may of shortened the bolts also.

I understand your frustration! Spend $??? and then have to re-engineer it. Shortening the screws is no biggie, but it is the principle. I got a single shot sled for my AICS and it still needs more work to feed properly.

If it would have been listed on the web site as possibly needing to do this I would have been ok with it but being blind sided like this irks me. Just need to find a nut to put on the help debur after I cut it. Thanks for the replies.

Tried twice to install this kit. The screws are so tight I am afraid of stripping the threads. Put the original bottom metal back on without any issues. Is there other kits out there for AICS mags or just one kit?

Screws are too tight? Threads or head. Original, from the AICs kit or hardware store"

Check the threads and make sure they are 1/4"-28. It is easy to mistake them for metric 6 x 1.

My thoughts also. or even 1/4-20.
The action threads should never be tight. Also make sure the screw centerline is accurate in the stock and in the magazine frame.

When doing stock work I cut the heads off some longer 1/4x20 bolts and use them to check alignment. For the HOWA they were 6mm.

Thanks for the replies. Where can I buy just screws, but longer? The ones for the savage bottom metal are to short for the AICS bottom metal kit.

You can get cap screws at the hardware store. The allen head cap screws will likely fit the counterbores in your bottom metal. If you buy pan head screws from some suppliers the head diameter is larger. I think 3/8" is perfect and the cap screw fits that bill. Remember, 1/4"-28 TPI

When doing stock work I cut the heads off some longer 1/4x20 bolts and use them to check alignment.
That is when having a stick of all thread comes in handy.

While some SAE and metric threads may kinda interchange, there isn't much mating surface-area and screws with work themselves loose over time (even with threadlocker).

Best to measure to determine exact threading you need.

Most hardware stores has decent selection of cap screws. I actually ran into one in Morgan Hill on way to Laguna Seca that had 7mm metric bolts!!! Or can order easily enough from McMaster

I ordered 4 boxes of 1/4"x 28 x 2" button head screws from McMaster Carr. I turn the heads down slightly to fit in the trigger guards and mag frames. When I actually tried to use some,to my surprise these screws turned out to be 6 mm x1, although the box was clearly marked 1/4"x 28. I called McMaster and they said they would send the correct parts. When I received them, that was the first thing I checked. Guess what?? they were metric, too. Another phone call and they had to hand inspect a whole pallet of screws. Goes to show ya, even the manufacturer can mis-package shit.

Yeah, that's why I try to find stuff at local hardware stores. When I lived in SF, there was awesome place MrMetric where I could order stuff online. Then just drive down and pick it up same day. But they closed up shop. I'll use McMaster for really esoteric stuff I can't find locally. Bar stock, tubing and metals to make moto frames mostly.
