    Re barreling a Savage question

I'm looking for a new project and find a few savage rifles for sale on the net, at a price I can work with.
I was just wondering if all newer savages have the barrel nut to home change the barrel?
    ???

All the 110 series will have the barrel nut. Depending on year and model it will either be a smooth nut or a slotted nut. Theres a tool sold for each type by a few companies.

I recommend also getting an action wrench along with the barrel nut wrench. And don’t forget headspace gauges so you can set the headspace.

Savage Axis/Edge models also take the same barrels as the 110 small shank series.

There are large shank barrel actions out there, usually on the target models. Sill easily replaced with the nut.

    Cool thanks.
I see some Savages, 3006 that are just over 300 bucks. They would work great, even get a cheap crappy scope.

    You are hearby forewarned.

Swapping barrels is an addictive habit. First one is the hardest, but, we are like dealers, just want you to get a taste of it. When you realize how easy it is you want more. And then you'll want another action so you can be working on one while shooting another. It only ends when your gun safe is full and you are spending all your money on bullets.

Ahmen to that! I am just now considering a 6BRA barrel to swap out with my 6BR, if nothing more; just to see which one shoots better with my action! Its habbit forming and swapping barrels takes just a few minutes. For a new swapper I would contact James at Northland Shooters. He will set you up with a vice, gauges and help you with barrel nuts.

8mm RUM - go here and watch. Its a good video regarding what is involved! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OP0...nBarrels%2CInc.

    Best of luck!

Haha, I have 3 here now and not one has the original barrel left on it! I also have bolt heads for the 223, 6.5 Grendel and the 308 family. That covers a bunch of calibers!
