Good start. What Sierra bullet did you use. Those short cases and shorter ranges always had me using
the Sierra 53 gr flat base SMK. The real short boat tail 52 gr SMK was my go to in the 222.....What powder
are you working with, and are you jumping or jamming ??

My best 5 shot group, @ 100 yards, off the bench measures .110". Wallet target.
Learned that the .221 Fireball wouldn't feed worth SQUAT on a Savage action as a repeater so went single feed and never looked back.
That is on a "J" action so not sure about any other set ups. Single feed solved LOTS of problems.

Quite a few of us in here are 'older', some are even 'wiser' (not me :) ).

Hang out with old guy's, they know stuff.
I have always thought that was a good plan.
Now I am one of the Old Guy's.
I was talking with a young Deputy in the Gun Shop today. He was talking about scraping a little more money together to trade up for a better rifle. I can still remember those days when I had only One Center-fire Rifle, and kept trading up for a better one.

    Enjoy your 221 Fireball.

Never ever thought I'd be as old as I am right now. Youngest daughter will turn 60 in about a week. Eldest daughter will turn 66 in about a month. Eldest grand kids are in their 40s with a couple of younger grand sons in their early 20s.
Then there's a Great Grand daughter pushing 27. Time marches on and there isn't SQUAT you can do about it.
Age wise, think I've outlived my Father, Mother and close to outliving my sister.
Mother in law lived with us until she died at 91. She outlived all of her brothers and sisters. WE made sure she was WELL TAKEN CARE OF. Wife's Aunt died at 101 so there's long life on her family side.
Keep moving till you can't move anymore and remember, you're only going around one time, unless you're Shirley MacLane so you better make the best of it.
As far as being wiser? Not too sure that, about after packing that microwave in and throwing it around like I was Charles Atlas while my still back tells my different.

Nice job. I'm sold on Brux barrels for shooting matches. Criterion is good for field shooting.

Very nicely done. I have shot Sierra52gr HPBT on yotes out of my .22-250 for decades. Nice round but as your target shows its sometimes has a loose one that shows up.

Question, was the Brux a pre fit? I ask as a Brux will ne my next barrel!

    Thanks for sharing!

Someone mention .221 Fireball? This one makes me drool!! Be tough but I don't think I'd shoot it.
Never owned a SAFE QUEEN but it could be my first.
And when the key word in .221 Fireball, you have my fullest attention and I'am hooked.

And this little devil it prettier than most girls I've seen.
And the guy that built it was/is a Master!!
From what we figured out, it came out of Remington stock. SOMEBODY had fun building it.
    Maybe 2 or 3 built.
Showed up on Accurate Shooters.com forum.

OK Art NC, we need a few more details. Mag feed? Single feed? Barrel length?
Doesn't look to be that long. Mikie likes it!!

I almost forgot about the Rem 600 and 660 actions. I loved the look of those things. But, I am a sucker for mannlicher style stocks and shorter barrels.

I DO KNOW that a factory Remington XP 100 in .221 Fireball will hook anybody!! It just does.
One of the guns on MY want list. Finally found one and it's been fun since then. I like small stuff. Tried some 20 VT stuff but never could get the results I wanted.
Had a BIG STASH of Remington .221 Fireball brass so my 4 and 5 times fired Fireball brass got turned into 20 VT. Even tried a 20 VT "short". Never did like the looks and quality of reformed into 20 VT brass so it got set aside.
While playing, ran into some 22 TCM brass. That sent me off into another direction and I ended up building a 20 TCM Wildcat. (20MGM) Built but still needs more R&D. Couple of folks used my reamer and are shooting so it does work.
One of my best experiences with the .221 Fireball was one day at the range. Grandpa showed up with his grandson maybe 12/13 and he was watching me shoot me XP. I asked Grandpa if he could shoot my XP. Grandpa said sure so I set him up and showed him how to sight thru the LER scope and to watch the "hair trigger". The kid hit steel out to 200 yards and to this day I bet he still has a grin on his face. My bet is, he probably owns one now.

No , I chambered it without the nut . But a pre-fit should do just fine .

No it is a single feed , 22" barrel off of a BR gun and no barrel nut , it has a PT&G tight fit bolt , and basix trigger set pretty light.

I have a 222 rifle built on the XP100 action . The Savage shoots just as good as the 222 .

I really hate getting a new computer. Takes a few days to get it all set back up the way I want. I didn't see, which Berger bullet was that?

I hate to sound like a broken record but what I've found over the years is, when it comes to different powders, find one and stick with it till you can't get any more out of it!! Never paid much attention to FPS. If they were all going in the same hole, that was good enough for me. Never seen a target or critter squawk about how fast they got killed.
Started out using AA2230C data powder. Good stuff @ something like $65.00 for an 8# jug. Ended up shooting maybe 60 or 70 pounds. Sounds like B*** S*** but an M1A and a Mimi 14 WILL eat up lots of powder and I made damn sure they did!!
Then AA2230C wasn't made anymore so I switched over to AA2230. Ended up using it in just about everything I shoot, from a couple of wildcats on up to .308 and a 6.8 SPC. Ideal for the .223 AND the .221 Fireball and LOTS in between.
Get a powder and work it till you can't work it anymore then work it some more!!!
Most folks will hear "this powder works good on my ammo" so they jump ship and move to something else without REALLY finding the full potential of the powders they already have. So, they end up with 3/4 of a pound of 5 + different powders sitting on the shelf that NEVER really had a chance.
I can shoot bug holes with any of my reloads using AA2230 powder. Can't ask for much more than that.

I did the same thing with Varget until it got scarce. Then I changed to N540 and now I use it in my .223, 6.5CM and 6BR. Makes stocking easier. All 3 also use the same SR primers as well.
