Probably for the heavier bullets, like the 115gn bullets out there these days. I shoot 103's in my 6BR.
Own this rifle - reload for it - like it a LOT. For some time now, have assumed incorrectly that it was a 1:10 twist. Have now learned it is a 1:9.25 twist. Can someone please share why that twist rate? Maybe to better handle 95 to 105 gr bullets???
I'm very happy shooting the lighter 75 gr to 85 gr bullets. No desire or need to go heavier for my Wiley purposes.
Thanks.

Charlie,
I went down the costly, frustrating road of buying a .243 with an 8 twist for heavier bullets. Unfortunately - and contrary to other positive reports - it would NOT accurately shoot the lighter 60 / 70 gr bullets. OK for some - just not for my hunting needs. Rifle is gone.
Just curious - will my Savage 1:9.25 twist handle 105 gr - maybe 110/115 gr bullets? Accurately?
Thanks.
I don't know. I think it would depend on how fast you push them. My 6BR has a 1in8 twist and does not do well with 108gn bullets. I chose the BR simply because I did not want to push a lot of powder through the barrel so velocities are not the same as the 243. It does ok with 103gn and will do 105 Bergers. Accurate for me is 1/2MOA. If I am having a good day, and took my time reloading, I can get down in the 2's or 3's, but that isn't the norm for my shooting. That's with a Shilen barrel.
I'd start by looking in here :

Thanks Charlie.
I read your very informative / worthwhile link all the way to the bottom. Have put the link in my 243 data bank. For now - as I'm more focused on hunting Wiley than LR target - with the twist rate I have, I'm going to focus on the 75 to 85 gr varmint bullets. Have 3 weights in my inventory, 75, 80 & 87.
Agree with you on the accuracy expected. .5 MOA is my personal minimum @ 100 - MOA further out. IMHO, that's reasonable for this cartridge and rifle. Up to me to extract their potential.
Freezing temps keeping me off the range for the next coupl'a days. Anxious to get started with this rifle.
Please don't let me get any reports about you behaving yourself! :-)
