If the mag well is made for a .223 pattern then it will.
Why not rebarrel that action you have now with a premium barrel in .223?
I have an Axis II Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor with a chassis made for Savage by MDT. It has over 3000 rounds through the barrel and I was eventually going to re-barrel it, but I have started building another 6.5 Creedmoor with a Begara barreled action. Now I am thinking instead of re-barreling the 6.5 Creedmoor, I will buy an Axis II rifle in Remington .223 and swap out the 6.5 Creedmoor with the .223. The .223 action and barrel should drop right in right?

Yes, just change out the bolt head. That's one of the great features on the Savage. You can use any later model standard bolt head, Axis is same as the 110. When you want to change to something else, swap it back. Takes less time than thinking about changing the barrel.
