Seekins latest generation is done right. The problem, gun popularity and the money that is spent on them is rapidly narrowing to a smaller group of buyers. Fewer buyers means lower sales. I am betting more than one operation shuts down soon.

Savage has been spreading their models thinner and thinner. I don't imagine this will keep up in perpetuity
I am sorry, I may have mispoke.

I've been saying this for several years now. Savage went all in on the whole "Baskin Robin's" business model and it's going to catch up to them eventually. Variety and options are a good thing, but there's also such a thing as too many options and too much variety because 1) no dealer or distributor can afford to stock all the options, and 2) no matter what the dealer has on the shelf, with so many options chances are the customers always going to want something other than what they have on the shelf -be it a difference caliber, different stock color, or different model altogether.

You also don't really see anyone else in the industry offering anywhere near the number of variations as Savage does, and for good reason.

And that's not even getting into the whole mess of Savage competing with themselves with multiple bolt-action lines now (Axis, 110, Impulse, and now the Stevens 334 as well). When the Axis came out it was to be the budget, no-frills basic hunting rifle option for Savage. But then they added the AccuTrigger, then they started offering heavy barrel models, then they offered them in a chassis, and before too long I'm sure there will be a carbon fiber barreled model. What was their basic budget hunting rifle model is no long that and in many cases is taking sales away from the 110-series rifles which have a higher mark-up percentage than the Axis line.

I see Savage the same way you do. They are trying to be everything for everyone and pricing themselves out of the market. And they seem to be doing it at the expense of their customer service. I'd rather them concentrate on fewer models with more reasonable prices AND have a custom shop that can assemble the special packages for people. But, that would mean they would need to fix some of their design issues and customer service.

I agree 100% Charlie and Jim. When all the variations start to get too confusing to a Savage nut like a lot of us, I can only imagine what the general Hunter must feel.

Yeah, when you come out with a "new model" and the only thing new about is is the barrel is 2" shorter or longer and the stock has a different camo pattern on it, it's a clear sign things have gotten way out of hand. Another good sign is when you're catalog is up to 158 pages.

I can remember when a whole catalog was one page.
