    Question Help identifying a Savage 24s


    Looking for more info on a Savage 24s I received as a gift from a relative. Curious what year it was made and where that info came from.

    this is what is printed on the gun:
    Savage 24 series s 20 ga 2 3/4 & 3 inch shells
    SN: D365505
    Savage arms westfield mass usa there's an 8 in a square and a circle cant read
    22 win mag R.E. Proof tested circle with SP1
    right side of barrel a circle SP1
    right side of the barrel catch is a circle with 92 and circle with 99

    Serial # "D" prefix puts the manufacture date somewhere between March of 1979 and August of 1982. With the checkering on the stock and being a rimfire, that would make it a 24-D Deluxe model according to my catalogs for those years. Only other variants that had checkering those years were the 24V (centerfire cartridges) and the 242 (both barrels .410 gauge).
