Yeah, Speedy came to his first Tack Driver match in Orangeburg SC, and Eric pulled a no show. Jim
Cline called him out, for the next one and Speedy paid his match fees before he left. A pod cast a
few months ago has some of the details. The match is shot at 300 meters, over a two day period
and you shoot both group and score. There is more to it but, Cline got ahold of me and......

Sounds like some unnecessary drama to me. At my age calling someone out, even if a person talks chit, is not the proper route to go. Competitive shooters have long been known as the the finest people. Even Kieth keeps his cool when challenging him. I like when people of different viewpoints are taken to challenge and the better philosophy wins. But ugliness needs to be eliminated. I don't think Eric was afraid. He may just not have been as preparred as he wanted to be.
We all have a lot more in common than we do differences.
I am sorry, I may have mispoke.
Ugliness? Clearly you didn't watch the match video on Speedy's YT channel and don't realize that Speedy and Erik are extremely close friends that constantly poke fun at one another. Having met Speedy a few times I can attest to the fact that 1) he's probably one of the nicest people you'd ever have the pleasure to meet, and 2) he has a great sense of humor and can be down right ornery when not properly supervised.
This one time...in the bar at the Ramkota in Pierre, SD during the Varmint Hunter's Jamboree, Speedy.... Oh wait, this is a family friendly forum.![]()

My reference was not about Speedy, It was about Cline. I don't know him, or Speedy or Eric. I have shot Matches at Bayou Rifles with Speedy and Eric. Both very respected and down to earth. Jim Cline could be the salt of the earth and I may have taken it out of context. I may have mispoke :) but I believe shooting sports should not be testosterone driven. I apologize if I read into fug's statement more than what was there. Most of us look up to these top shooters and give them respect, we don't want conflict or drama. If it was all in fun, great.
I am sorry, I may have mispoke.
From the varying disciplines I've shot over the years, Their is more trash talking then most will admit.
Jim Cline is a Hall of Fame score shooter with multiple "Shooter of the year" awards. He just won
another one this past year, and interviewed By Eric on a pod cast. This is where oil meets the vinegar.
Now Jim's game demands you stay in or near the same hole from 100 to 300 yards. Eric's game
demands you hit a trash can lid at 1000 Yards. That last statement was a rib and a jest. But actually
some top F-class have had invites, and notably here in Pa. at 1000 Williamsport. The trash talking
here is about target size. Where F-class shoots a 10" 10 ring and 5" x-ring from the belly, BR at that
distance shoots a 7" 10 ring, and 3" x-ring. Being called out is always going on. Eric had made a few
comments, intentional or not, in his pod casts. So he got called out, and frankly. not the first time.
If you caught any of the reading in previous interviews, Eric is a 7mm guy and had a few words to
rib about the smaller BR cartridges such as the PPC.....That did not sit well with some. And now this
coming first week of November 2025 the fun will begin. 140 shooters are registered for Tack Driver 6,
myself included. Eric paid Speedy back the advanced registration fee so, all should be right and good
to go. Now that Speedy is on most of the pod casts now, I would expect a little more poking and jabbing
to occur......Stayed tuned !!
And Mcrider55 !! Sorry about side tracking. How's That new Cortina tuner coming ??

Fuj,
Installed my Jard trigger and got the feel of it today.
Tuner arrives tomorrow. Looking forward to putting it thru it's paces this week.
Was your barrel already threaded ?? And did you also need one of his adapters ??
Keeping my bad Karma intact since 1952
When I bought my UrbanRifleman barrel I had the barrel threaded. The original Savage was threaded as well.
It was a seamless installation. Just screw it on, tighten the allen and next stop is to hit the range tomorrow morning. I can get almost 3 full turns of the tuner with 10 settings to each full turn. Very nice machine work. They even have a sense of humor as inside the box, the tuner was packaged in a pill bottle with a prescription label that says "for external use only".
Hit the range this morning, temp was 60 at 7am.
I did a baseline shot with no tuner and cold bore was decent I did 3 shot groups and as I went thru the numbers I could quickly tell the tuner was having and effect. I don't even begin to understand all the dynamics with harmonics and how the tuner impacts it, but the target doesn't lie. First setting (#9) shot a .419 and then it immediately began to open up to over 1MOA. As I went thru them they stayed open until I got to #2 and they immediately tightened way up to a .359. Then #1 was a .317 and then setting #0 was .371.
This was just one full turn of the tuner and it will go about another half turn.
I did one 5 shot group before I left, the barrel was getting pretty warm and it shot a .540 at the #1 setting.
I'm nowhere near the shooter some of you are, but for me, I'm damned happy with what this gun can now do. I don't like my rear bag and ordered a Crosstac 2XL which, (hoping) will give me more stability at the rear of the gun.
I wish I could find the end of this %^&* rabbit hole I've gone down!

That is the truth!!!
Due to a number of issues, getting some time at the range the last 3 weeks has been as issue. Finally got some time in this morning with my tuner.
Did some 3 shot baseline groups without, and I shot a best of .274.
Starting at the first setting, and getting thru just about half of the available on the tuner, I got a best of .254. I went thru ten clicks over all during this test.
It was a clear morning, no wind and a temp of 22 degrees.
It was pretty amazing how just one click would either open/close the groups up. None of the groups were over 1 MOA at 100 yards.
It's really a great learning experience in barrel harmonics and how sensitive they really are to even slight changes. I know the subject of tuners is a hotbed issue with shooters on many forums, but I for one am a believer.
I agree with Fuj' and there is a huge difference between between letting bullets fly for score on a "trash can lid" and letting bullets fly to the exact same hole as the ones before. Also Eric is a prone shooter, lost of difference shooting prone than bench. For one equipment set up on the bench, it takes years to learn to it set up right. Also if you watch Eric shoot his trigger method is not a bench type method and he also is not light on his shoulder either. IMHO opinion he would give up all shoulder contact and learn to shoot free recoil, that way his old habits won't follow him on the bench.
I am not bashing Eric at all its just that IMHO he has allot to overcome to shoot bench. One thing is like myself from his own words he is hunter. It just takes allot to get over those habits and put exacting skills to a Bench. However, if anyone can teach him its his close friend who is also a Hall of Famer'.
As for tuners I too am interetsed in your thoughts. Maybe a new thread would be in order so we can follow you in more detail.
Thanks Mcrider55
Got out again this morning, about 5 degrees, no appreciable wind, I did 10 groups of three@ 100 yards.
.232
.285
.291
.368
.389
The remaining 5 were all over .5 inch MOA and only one was over 1MOA and that was because of a flyer I had that was my fault.
Load was 25gr of CFE223 w/60GR SMK/TMK bullets at 2.26 inch COL.
This is far and away the best set of groups I have ever shot at one sitting. I am really digging my new rear bag, a Crosstac Tactical 2XL with my AccuTac BR4 bipod. It's given me the rifle stability I've been chasing for months.
I can't say enough about the Cortina Tuner. A year ago I thought these things were another gimmick, but I was very wrong. These devices definitely get the job done. The exciting thing is not only do I have the accuracy, I'm shooting at 1 inch target and every shot but 1 was inside that target.
Damn, this is fun!
