    Missouri Alternative Weapons Season 2024-2025

Alternative Weapons Season will open Saturday 28 December 2024 and run through Tuesday 7 January 2025.
I replaced one of my ropes on the Ladder Stand yesterday. The old Parachute Cord had gave up the ghost after several years. I replaced it with a heavier Nylon Rope and tied knots every couple feet for a better grip bringing my back pack up into the stand. The other parachute Cord that I used to bring my cased handgun up into the stand with, is still in good shape. If it is not raining tomorrow I will need to hit a ratchet strap with some flat Black Paint. We were pulling camera cards, and I made a circle in the small field that I hunt over late in the afternoon. The Ratchet Mechanism was shining like a spot light in the late evening sun. I have had deer take a hard look at the stand before, and wondered why. That shiny ratchet was what they were seeing.
A couple days ago I had Eight Does feeding down the fence row behind the house around 4:45. They are finally starting to move more during daylight hours. Looking at the game camera pictures we are getting more daylight activity. We had one really nice buck in a picture at night. He had at least Eleven Points that we could count.
Hopefully we will make some progress filling the freezer this coming weekend.

Sounds like it's finally shaping up with deer activity for you to get to burn some powder. Here, the daylight deer activity has decreased substantially in the past few days.

    Good luck!

Good luck, Bob. I’m going to the range today to verify zero with the Encore ML, as my sister will be here this weekend. She’ll carry the ML. Weather looks to be favorable, not overly cold, not overly warm. We could definitely use a couple more deer for summer sausage and brats. Sis wants to pressure can the one she got during the general firearms season.

That's something we've never tried. I'd be interested to hear more details, especially about how it's prepared for a meal after being pressure-canned.

It’s really simple to do and has a good shelf life. I’ll include a link for the process, much simpler than me typing it out. We do not add any seasoning, only the cubed meat when canning it. It’s ready to eat directly from the jar and I’ll add salt, pepper and garlic powder while I’m heating it up in a saucepan. I typically add a couple teaspoons of cornstarch to 2 cups hot water and mix well, then pour it over the meat in the pan, for a gravy. It’s good over mashed potatoes or noodles. The meat also works well in chili. Very tender and there are many other uses for it.

Thanks! The article mentions lots of good reasons for doing this, and I never even thought about saving freezer space.

My aunt would bring canned white tail from Wisconsin each time she visited THE BEST part of the visit, It did not look all that appetizing but it most certainly was

I have friends that swear by canned venison, but I have never tried it myself. I might need to add a pressure cooker to my meat processing equipment.

I’ll be back out Sunday with a handgun.

    Well it is 7 AM.
Pea Soup Fog, and still some rain falling.
The temperature is not bad, but is is wet out. For sure a rubber boot day.
I guess that I better close and head to the stand.

UPDATE: The Fog started clearing off between 8:00 - 8:30 AM. Then the Fog rolled back in around 10:00, then cleared back off.
All that I saw all morning was Two Grey Squirrels. I though this would be a good morning.

This afternoon it is supposed to rain again. I will hunt the Tower Stand this afternoon where I can stay dry. I have a couple small Machinery Shed's just down hill from the stand to park the Roxor in out of the weather. I hope that things perk up this afternoon.
