    Opinions on new deer rifle?

Hello, I am looking to purchase a new rifle, mainly for deer. I am looking at BassPro because I have a bunch of points to use. The two models I am looking at are the,

Savage ArmsŪ 110 VSX Hunter XP Bolt-Action Rifle with Vortex Diamondback Scope Combo #57974
    and
Savage ArmsŪ 110 Ultralite Camo #58021

I am relatively a newer hunter, though I have been shooting all my life. I am welcoming any and all opinions and information I can get. I did do some searching, but didn't find the information that would be helpful. I am not too familiar with the Savage lineup. My nephew has a couple Savage rifles and he is very happy with them.

So far my preferred criteria would be
    Synthetic stock
    Bolt action
    30-06
    Stainless
    Camo

Thanks for any and all help.

If I were looking for a deer rifle today I'd get an Apex Hunter or Storm in 308 and choose my own scope and rings, or, look into the Axis lineup. Unless you intend to get a suppressor there's no need for a threaded barrel. My opinion for what it's worth. Welcome to the forums.

Thank you. I ended up going with the 110 VSX. I am not looking to use a suppressor, but the reviews I found raved about the 110. Thanks again for the welcome!

The 110 platform is a very solid performer, should serve you well. Welcome and keep us posted.

I purchased the 110 VSX in 300WM last year from Bass Pro. It's smooth, it's accurate and it looks great and it's not very heavy! Shot an elk with it this year. Most ammo that I've tried in the 180 gr variety is very accurate. I do use a suppressor with mine.

I also purchased the Trail Hunter in .270. The first iteration with the heavier barrel. I wish I would have bought the .270 in the VSX lineup...

A 110 in 30-06 is an excellent choice. I would stay far away from Vortex especially on an 06. I would choose a Leupold Freedom line is in the same price range and legions better. I put a 2x7 VX1 on a Tikka 30.06 20 years ago for my son and it never lost zero despite being bumped and banged by a 15 year old. He managed to kill two Cow Elk with it. One at 20 yards and one at 310 yards.

I had already ordered this, but thanks for the response. I will look into the Leupold in the future when I decide to buy my kids the 110's for hunting.

FWIW I've had Vortex glass on 300wm, 338-06, 7mm wsm, 450bm etc and never had any issues with them. All were repeatable and passed a box test flawlessly.
Leupolds are great scopes for sure but I wouldn't worry about your Vortex either.

You're going to get bored with that 110 because it will just keep shooting bullets into one hole. What's the challenge with that?
