Yes, barrel is simple. A chassis is the simplest way to go with the AICS mags. The other is a "SA" stock and buy a new mag and catch.
I have a stock/ chassis rebarreling question. I have a first gen axis in 30-06. I want to rebarrel to 243, 6.5cm or maybe 308. I think that since it's the same bolt face and since axis is sort of an in between action this just requires a new barrel. is that correct?
Do I then get a SA model savage axis chassis /stock if I go 243/6.5cm/308?
Do I need a new magazine and trigger guard or is that only if i use oem stock still? what about if i get a boyds?
Or how does it work with something like an oryx or field stock. u just use aics mags with the chassis?
I realize putting a bunch of money into a budget rifle is kind of dumb but they'll be plenty chassis and prefit sales for black Friday. Trying to turn this into a range toy that I can still get something out of. Shooting big 30 cals not rly my thing anymore. and it's been sitting in my safe doing nothing. already have a bunch of other bolt actions so not going to just buy another rifle.

Not a damn thing wrong with customizing your Axis. The corksniffers berate them, but they shoot unbelievably well. My Axis Precision is a tack driver.
The difference is in the stock. The magazines are different.
All Axis receivers are long action.
i can do a 6cm prefit too right and it's still just a barrel swap? i'm leaning 6cm/243 as i already have a bunch of 6 cm ammo although a takeoff 243 would be cheaper
Chances are the 30-06 mag will feed a .243 or a Creedmoor.

Got a 243 takeoff on the way thanks everyone
