    Loads for 243

Could you all make some recommendations for powders for a 243? I just got a new rifle and know the 243 is somewhat of a barrel burner and would like to prolong the life as much as possible. There are quite a number of different weight bullets you can use too but I am looking for a combination as easy on the barrel as possible.

Unlike other companies, you don't have to pay to see their load data - https://www.nosler.com/load-data/cal...idge-data.html

Vihtavouri also has a good data site, as does Hodgdon.

What bullet are you looking to use? I prefer 100 grain bullet weight in the.243.

With Re-22 going the way of the dodo. I’m going to start load development again.

Some guys will break out and start working up their own loads. Then they never ask others for their loads.
I am sorry, I may have mispoke.

    Match or hunting loads?

    For match loads, long range (800 - 1,000 yards) short range (100 - 200 yards) or mid range (300 - 600 yards)?

Medium game hunting - deer, antelope, etc., Short (brush), medium or long range (> 400 yards)?

Varminting - Gophers, prairie dogs or coyotes? 100 -300 yards, 300 - 600 yards, or long range?

    For 87gr. and heavier, I like H4350
Anything lighter I like Varget and CFE223

H-4831sc, H-4350 with 95gn bullets. load to about 2800-2875fps, should be easy on the barrel.

For varmints I use hornady 75 grain hollow points with H4831/ and H4831 sc. It is a tack driver.
Willing to give back for what the sport has done for me!

    I have 2-243's. A 1-10 and a 1-7.5
    In the 1-10 I use 87gr V Max with IMR3031 or H414.
    In the 1-7.5 I use 107 SMK with H100v '

IMR3031 produces incredibly small grps H414 give me nice accuracy and more velocity. If I'm shooting in Iowa I'll go with the 87 VMax and IMR3031 every time.

Yup. My Remington 8.5 twist with H4831 SC is awsome.

We are luckier than most. The nearby Cabela's and Sportsman's both keep a pretty good supply of powders and primers. Sometimes they even have the bullets I like. I guess not that many folks around here reload much.

My 243 always placed in the top 3 in the club rifle shoot and killed dozens of deer with a Hornady 100 gr interlock and IMR-3031. It was a tack driver. Gave good speed for a fast burning powder too

    I have a 110 in 243.
I load 95g Nosler BTs in it. Loaded with CCI200 or Rem 9 1/2s, and 7828. It is a high density load, and I can push them at about 3000fps without pressure signs.
Could possibly step on the gas a but more, but I see no need.
I have dropped big hogs and a nice 9pt buck on the spot with that load. Only runner was a small button buck that run on empty, with both lung jellied and heart split in 2.

I will need to work on a new load with 7828SSC, but also have 2lbs of RL17 and 1lb of AA4350 on hand.
Heard wonders about the Hornady 105g BTHP, but never shot them.

Published reloading manuals are my go-to.

A decent resource. Be careful with some of the hot loads listed.

FWIW, I have found the Hornady 103 and 90gn ELDX bullets to be pretty good..
