    Musical barrels, why not!

This all started with the purchase of a new NSS Match Select prefit in 6ARC for my 110. Pulled the original barrel and fit the new one. The 110 then also got the Boyd's stock from my Model 11 223. Which then the Model 11 receiver inherited the old 6ARC barrel and the plastic stock. This then left the 223 Model 12 Varmint barrel that came off the Model 11. Enter an old Model 10 Stagger feed blind magazine 223, my very first rifle. This rifle is sitting on a Boyd's Spike Camp. I love the Blind Mag and the trigger on this one is also the best of the bunch so of course it now has that Model 12 Varmint barrel on it and I will continue to shoot it till it won't shoot anymore.

    So now the inventory sits as;
Model 110 Switchback with a NSS Match Select 28" Bull Barrel 7.5 twist, four groove ratchet. Boyd's At-One Thumb Hole. Athlon Argos 10-40X56
Model 11 BBR DBM, Factory 22" medium Varmint with brake 6ARC. Factory stock. Burris 4.5-14X42 Fullfield E1
Model 10 Stagger feed, blind mag, Model 12 26" Varmint barrel. Boyd's Spike Camp. Athlon Argos 8-34X56 FFP MRAD.

Down the road the Model 11 may become a 22ARC and the Model 10 will get a Shilen 7.5 twist Bull barrel 223.

My idea of a Poor Mans Target rifle as that is all these will be used for. I found this exorcise a great deal of fun. Learned much and this now makes 4 Savage barrels I have swapped.

Your a bit behind !!.....LOL Not counting the rifles ready to go, there are about 15 barrels ready to
switch out or are blanks. Of the blanks, they are a mix of Brux, Krieger, Hart, and Douglas. I'll be
adding 2 more shortly, One of the guy's is sending me a large shank Savage take off, I plan to make
into a water jacketed mule barrel. The other is a Krieger that will pair up to the project that the mule
barrel will be used for......Always something !!

The very best part of all this is that the Savage actions are plentiful, inexpensive and with the barrel nut, very easy to work with.

After starting this last week and having trouble holding the barrel in position to torque it I stopped and ordered a barrel vise clamp to go along with my Action wrench and barrel nut wrench. With the vise clamp everything went very smoothly. The original barrel on the Model 10 and the barrel I replaced on the Model 11 both came off effortlessly. The Model 110 that started all this was difficult and felt very gritty. The Shilen barrel was also tight going on. Even with a light coat of anti-seize.

Yes I an still watching for a deal on a Model 12 Single shot receiver. Also a Model 10/11 Top bolt release.

You can pick up the Aero Solus for around $650 and use your savage barrels if you want to step up a bit. These are Savage beaters/killers IMHO. Throw a diamond trigger on it and you have a very nice rifle.

My problem with actions like the Solus or Zermat, is the unavailability of right bolt/left port actions.
My other issue is they only use small shank barrels. The only benefit for the typical user is being able
to arrive at a better trigger choice. i have no problem with the Savage triggers with my heavy guns. I
may be the odd man out here but, all my barrels are large shank......Plus, I'm too stubborn to give up
on my RB/LP PTA's. It's not only about the trigger ??

The right/left isn't as issue for me. I have shot a couple very light target triggers and at this point I find them too sensitive for my ability. The Savage triggers still work well for me. Biggest advantage in my view is the use of Remington footprint stocks.
