Soft primer strikes and inconsistent accuracy- Impulse Big Game in 6.5C

I have put 40 rounds through my new Impulse Big Game chambered in 6.5. I have had 3 soft primer strikes and a lot of inaccuracies. I’m located in the Midwest where temperatures have been in the 70’s in the last 4 weeks. All rounds have been shot from a Caldwell lead sled or from a BOG death grip. 27/40 have been Hornady precision hunters and the other 13 have been the Superformance. All 3 soft strikes were the hunters.

groupings can be as high as 4-5 inches or as low as 2-3 inches at 200 yards…the only thing that seems to be consistent is that they’re all right of center. I generally shoot with a buddy of mind who has a variety of custom built rifles, and I shoot those within an inch on center. Sure the triggers are different and that makes a bit of a difference but I wouldn’t think that MUCH.

has anyone seen or heard of similar issues with the Impulse? This is my first savage…this can’t be common right?!!

perhaps I can drop in a Timney and make some other
Adjustments for the accuracy but I’m most concerned about the soft strokes.

Inconsistent ignition is what is yielding the erratic groups. It is usually caused by lack of firing pin travel.

Remove the bolt and release the spring tension of the bolt handle to see how far the firing pin sticks out of the bolt face.
If it doesn't stick out of the bolt face at least a 1/16th of an inch you might have something impeding the firing pin.
