Fireball and Vartarg in a Savage short action

Has anyone tried building a 17 Fireball, 20 Vartarg, or 221 Fireball on one of the Savage short actions? I would be interested to hear about your build. Were you able to make it into a repeater?

Tried all of the above listed rounds. Short rounds pop off the bolt head before they get to the loading port. Ejector rod and spring removed from the bolt head = single feed. Fired brass stays on the bolt head till YOU pick it off. Problem solved!!
Oz never gave nothing to the Tin Man, that he didn't already have.

They do make for a great single shot action :) Mine all have the ejectors removed, including other mfgs.

Started out trying for a .221 Fireball (my favorite round) in my J series. A learning experience to say the least.
.221 Fireball, 20 VT, 20 VT "short", 17 Fireball, 20 Fireball and finally my 20 MGM Wildcat. (22 TCM necked down to 20)
Getting that one to feed IS an experience in it's self but so far, it's looking good.

I started my VarTarg project on a Striker pistol. I had a barrel made up at 16.5” and that pistol was a tacdriver. Got bored with it and swapped the barrel into a Savage 110 Hog Hunter rifle Single shot sled) and it shot great too. Gave it to a friend and he put it in a 12FV. He still shoots it on the prairie dog fields when we get together. In the meantime, I built a 20VT on an AR upper. Took a while to get it to repeat, but it’s very accurate and I still shoot 175 yd on in p-dogs with it. If I can figure out how to post picts, I’ll add a few.

You can't even THINK of saying AR in California without getting into problems. Had one, (1968 Colt, extra upper, non neutered) every time it came out at the range, 20 questions. Is it neutered, how did you get it, so on and so on. Finally gave it away and havn't looked back.
Only gas guns are my M1A and mini 14. AMMO EATERS, every one.
