try a shorter bullet IE... 165's
Got an Impulse Hog Hunter in 300 Win Mag, took it to the range to sight in. The bolt is very difficult to open after firing a shot downrange. Sometimes it will open and extract just fine others it balks and locks up about 1/4" in the extraction process. Shooting Federal 180gr, loads. Dry firing is is as smooth as silk. I have put 60 rounds through it at the range. Have searched the internet and so far nothing.

I am sorry, I may have mispoke.
What's a shorter bullet got to do with ejecting an empty case?
Like all rifles, sometimes they prefer different brands of cartridges and sometimes the chambers are tighter than others.
Being the 300 WM is a belted cartridge that some cartridge manufacturers use to headspace and others use the shoulder, so that could be causing your issue if something is out of tolerance.
Try lightly lubing a cartridge and wiping it down before chambering and firing to see if that helps in extraction.
Also if you haven't done it already, try a different brand of ammo.
Good Luck,
SJC
I will give that a try at my next range day! I have some Norma and Barnes ammo to try out.
Thank!

It's been my experience with the Impulse that the bolt should be actuated with authority. I also think as things break in, it tends to smooth out. I have a .308 Predator, which isn't exactly a .300WM, I acknowldge.
Good information, thanks! I will be working on this thing at my next range day with that one. I have to take a break from it and get my Parker Hale 30-06 on paper with a hunting load. This is a rifle I have always enjoyed from varmint hunting with 110gr HP to 180gr heavy Barnes Bullets on bigger game. What a rifle and what a cartridge!
