Savage 110DL Series H Replacement Trigger

    Hi folks,

I have a 110DL Series H with a A177*** serial number. It seems to date to 1969, unless someone knows better than I do.

It has a safety I cannot get to work correctly. If I adjust the safety screw behind the trigger, not on the safety bar, I cannot get the safety to slide to the off position. If I adjust the screw so it moves nicely, I can fire the gun with the safety on. Not ideal.

I have looked on here for various solutions and nothing I try seems to work. Either the safety is too tight or it completely fails and lets me fire the gun with safety in the on position.

So...is there a Savage replacement trigger unit that will work with this 110DL? If not, is there a third-party one that will work?

At this point I'm not sure this firearm is usable. It's definitely not safe.

    Thank you,
    Rob

You need to adjust the safety bar itself first. You must remove the trigger from the bracket to get to the adjustment screw. The adjustment screw will take out the up and down slack when the safety is slid from end to end.
Once the slack is out, you can install the trigger back into the bracket and proceed to adjust it on the trigger.

I’ve adjusted that screw as well and haven’t had any better results. Maybe I’m not getting it right.

I thought a newer generation of 110 trigger group would be better.

Is there a thin sheet metal clip that slides with the safety?

Yes, it clips onto a pin. It’s #32 on this schematic. If you aren't referring to that part there is a u-shaped piece I can't identify in this schematic. It doesn't slide with the safety though.

The part I am referring to is just ahead of the thumb button and acts as a dust cover. The safety adjustment screw rides on this part. Some of the older rifles has this, and then later it was discontinued. It is not shown on that schematic.
The reason I asked, is sometimes that clip gets bound up and affects the safety bar movement. When I encounter them, I just remove the clip and re adjust the screw.

Oh, there is a clip. It’s sort of has a u-shape to it and has a little nub on one side. It looks like the screw on the safety bar would hit it. I’m going to remove and try again.

Are you aware of completely replacing this trigger group with a newer Savage version? It seems like what is in these older rifles isn’t very good.

That style of trigger is what was used from 1966 to the accutrigger starting in 2003. They are not a bad trigger with a little work. When the accutrigger came out, there was also a change to the safety, so up grading is difficult. The good thing about your trigger is that it has a sear engagement screw, an adjustment not on an accutrigger. Once you get the safety issue figured out, you can change out the torsion spring for a lighter one if you wish.
