A deal came my way on a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 PRC that I couldn't pass up! While I saved a ton on the gun, I spent about triple what I saved on a new Pelican gun case, the reloading dies and accessories I need to reload a new caliber and bullets and brass. I even had to buy a new funnel because the one funnel I have didn't fit the case neck of the fat PRC cartridge.

I loaded 20 rounds using new Lapua brass and left over Sierra 140 gr HP-BTs that I tried in my 6.5 Creedmoor. They shot fine in that gun, but I liked other bullets better. I zeroed the scope, but figured out pretty quickly that my scope rings were too short for comfort. This gun is built like an AR platform complete with buffer tube. I dug around in my parts box and found a single piece 34 mm AR scope mount which gave me another 1/2" of height but I might still need more.

The bolt in this gun is not like the Savage bolt in my Axis so I'm having a hard time figuring out how to strip the bolt to determine the brass length I need to fit the chamber. The extractor and ejector are no problem, but the firing pin secures the bolt handle in the bolt so I've got to figure out how to keep the handle in place without the firing pin in the bolt.

It has a muzzle brake so recoil is only slightly more robust than my 6.5 Creedmoor without a brake. Once I develop a good load using the Hornady 156 gr A-tips I'll take it out to 1000 yards and beyond.
