What barrel life are folks seeing?
As long as it's 1,000+ rounds, that will be several years of coyote hunting.
Looking at Criterion barrels. They seem to get good reviews.
22CR is new to me. A few years ago there was an article in the American Rifleman titled "Half Mile 22". All it was was a 6mm Reminton necked down to 224 but used a 1:8 twist and heavy bullets. Dave Manson made readers for it. I wonder if the 22CR grew out of that r did it come from the 6CR? None of them sound al that different from the 220 Swift to me at a casual glance.
Just found this PDF with FAQ about the Impulse line that appears to be directly from Savage.
It states on page 3 that the Impulse barrels can be changed out in the field with only 4 screws and that the ZERO is repeatable.
Now if they will just sell the parts to back this up.....

I can only imagine that liability insurance might have something to do with the backpedaling on the quick barrel swap support?
That's the 22-6mm.... it has been around for a long time (probably from the 60s). I don't think it was ever commercially offered- but my oldest reloading book has data for it. Just goes to show that almost everything has already been tried-
Also- marketing info is always manipulated to make the new round look better than it really is.... for example comparing a 300 prc with a 208 berger to a 300wm shooting a 185 and then showing how much less drop the prc has.
My current 22-250AI barrel was cut in 2004 and has well over 2k rounds through it. Barrel would still put 5 rounds into a 1/4 MOA group at 200 yards when I did my part. I had Fred set the chamber back last spring knowing full well the throat was gone and I had about 10-12" of smooth bore ahead of the throat. I run my loads pretty hot (80gr pills @ just over 3300fps) so it's had a hard life. I may have also cooked it a time or three out west while shooting P-dogs back in the early days.
Haven't had it out since I had the work done as I spent the summer playing with my 6x47 Lapua.

Here's some food for thought- It will cost more in ammo to burn up said barrel than the barrel cost.
That certainly is plenty good for my needs.
I plan on shooting the 62gr ELD-VT and pushing it as hard as I can while still keeping great accuracy.
I'm shooting the 100gr ELD-VT in 6.5CM over 3,000fps and getting sub 1/2 MOA groups and they have performed awesome on coyotes though not always fur friendly.
I've messaged Savage a couple times about the parts for a barrel swap Ie. barrel extension, recoil lug and barrel nut BUT they haven't responded.
If Savage is worried about liability I can send them my receiver WITHOUT the factory 6.5cm barrel and my NEW 22cm barrel (when I get it) and let them set it up.
This is my first post as well, and I'd buy a couple as well. Please let me know some contact info when they are ready.
I've followed the Impusle since its release. Im a huge fan of the ambidextrous action. My interest has waned since it isn't taking off and there is basically no aftermarket support at this point. I don't see Savage continuing with this product line five years down the road. At this point if you haven't bought multiple actions and something fails you have an expensive club.
I've actually seen a new one on the shelf for a clearance price of about $650.00, IIRC. I told myself when it hit rock bottom at $400.00 Id have to buy it. Shorter barrel varmint model with aftermarket DM.
If you buy one, I can only recommend you buy at least a second, if not a third to go with it.
