Boyd's sent me a pre-paid return label, and it's shipping back to them today. They said they "will evaluate" it and let me know what they find out.

I got the stock back today. They indeed fixed the pad issue. But now, on one side of the stock for maybe 2.5 to 3 inches ahead of the recoil pad, the stock is not even close to smooth and feels like fine grit sandpaper.
I think I am done with Boyd's after this. I like the Revolution sets better anyway. I just wish HOA would specify which of their sets are Boyd's and which are actually Revolution. After all, they are certainly not the same.
Seems like no one cares what they make any more, I even have to get after my 35 year old toddler every now and then the just get it done mentality of the work force makes me cringe. Do you think the grit could be pad material stuck to the finish. I have had some less than acceptable results with Simms grind to fit pads they do plug up sanding belts sometimes the material almost melts and does stick to the platen
It's definitely not pad material. The finish is nearly rubbed through. I wonder if they somehow loosely clamped the stock in place to correct the pad issue and it wiggled during the process. I'm not sending it in again. I have it back on a frame. Maybe next winter, when temps cool down enough that it's comfortable to be in my shop, I'll remove it and try and remedy what they did. I've had a number of their stocks over the years and could have overlooked this issue if it was fixed properly, but screwing up one thing to correct another isn't acceptable to me. That tells me they didn't even bother to check it before returning it to me.
