Anyone have one in 22-250 and/or 243?
If so, how do you like it? What grain of bullets?
Any other info and/or comments welcome.
PS: Does anyone reload for the Impulse (I'm a reloader). Can you get away with bumping the shoulder back .002 or do you have to full length resize? Can it be push to the pressures of a BA?

Does anyone offer a re-barrel option in 22 Creedmoor?
Barrels are interchangeable between the Impulse and other Savage bolt guns. You just need to be sure you have the right bolt face diameter for Creedmoor cartridges and purchase a for Savage prefit. Just make sure the shank sizes match up.
I bought one in 243 and rebarreled to 22 Creedmoor. As others have said, it uses the same barrels as Savage model 10. However, it uses a different barrel nut, so the standard wrench doesn't fit.
I've been bumping shoulders .002 and loading to standard pressures. I don't think there's anything different than loading for any other bolt action.
I posted a whole series on the tubes about my Impulse: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL...aaIYMblgGy8FC-
Somehow I missed this. Great series. Very clear.
Like most firearms Savage has produced, the Impulse Predator model is an example of an American made straight pull rifle that can be customized by the the consumer and is affordable compared to other straight pull rifles on the market.
For the last 2+ years I've tested and hunted with my Predator rifles in many environmental conditions in three different calibers. .243, .260, 20-250.
I know others that have tested their Predator rifles in several different calibers as well, with good results.
I've posted the results of my somewhat unbiased testing on this site for all to see.
I fully admit that I prefer using straight pull rifles and have been buying and working on Savage rifles for decades, so the Impulse rifle fit's right into my wheelhouse.
I hunt and compete with Blaser rifles, so I know how a quality straight pull rifle performs.
The Impulse Predator is a proven reliable rifle in my eye's.
The biggest issue for most Impulse rifle users is being able to adjust to a straight pull rifles mechanics after using turn bolt rifles for so long.
I find it amusing that pulling a bolt back and pushing it forward could be so difficult, but I witness it almost every time I let someone that's only fired turn bolt rifles their whole life try one of my straight pull's at the range for the first time.
If your used to and have many turn bolt rifles, I would only use it on the range till and if you get comfortable with it's ease of use.
Being I have other straight pull rifles to fit my needs, I probably wouldn't have, maybe wouldn't have, hesitated a second (who am I kidding) bought an Impulse rifle if Savage didn't come to their senses and offered the Predator model with the use of ultra reliable AI pattern metal magazines.
As with most rifles, Accuracy is improved with worked up handloads, but I have witnessed and have been told that factory ammo is accurate too.
The .243 predator has a 1-9 1/4 twist rate, so it's should be good for projos in the 60-100 grain weight range.
As with all of my .243 predator hunting rifles, I've had great result's with 70 grain Nosler ballistic tips.

Ordering X-Caliber Barrel for the predator model in 22 Creed w/8 T. Any recommendations on barrel profile with a heavy spiral fluting?
I can't remember the proper name, but where can I get the sleeve (extension?) that the barrel headspaces in? The idea is to buy a few so all I have to do is swap barrels quickly.
Far as I know nobody is making/offering barrel extensions for the Impulse yet. I know one guy on here made a few for himself, but had no intentions of producing them for sale. That would leave you to trying to purchase one directly from Savage - no clue if they're selling them separately or not though.

Here are some pictures of me tapping into the Accu-stock forearm aluminum chassis and mounting a Salmon River Solutions 4" Acra rail using 10-32X1" SS screws. I made it to where I can slide the rail far rearward to mount in a tripod or slide forward and use the flatbottom of the rail to ride a front rest.

Very nice.
Should make a stable platform for the remote hole puncher.

Good idea. I like the flexibility of sliding the rail fore and aft.
Looks awesome!
ARCA rails are so popular that all stocks should come pre drilled & tapped to mount them.
Went to the range this morning to test my 55 Gr Nosler BT (Varmint) loads using Varget and 210 primers. My first group of five shots were over an inch @ 100 yds and was getting 3/4" when firing forming brass. Long story shortened, my suppressor was loose, good thing it's a 30 cal can or could've had a baffle strike.
Proceeded to shoot the remainder of my loads and groups 2, 3 & 4 (pretty sure I pulled my shots on # 3) showed promise so, I'll work with these loads at various distances to see which one is the most consistent. It's really hard to complain when shot to shot went into the same holes when I did my part.
Note: I noticed when I run the bolt fast, it doesn't pick up a round and I'll need to get to the bottom of this!!!!
I tried a lot of different weight projos and powders with my Impulse .243 and the best combo I've found has been with any brand projo in the 70 grain weight range and H4350 powder.
70 Gr Nosler Ballistic tip's have always been my go to projo.
This year I'm using the 20-250 Impulse as my primary rifle and the .243 Impulse as my backup.

The follower was dragging on the sides of the mag and just needed a little sanding with fine grit and polishing with a buffing wheel.
I finally got my Impulse Predator in 6.5CM. It took me about 10 shots to get it on paper at 100 yards and sighted in. I then shot it's 1st 5 round group. 4 of the 5 were .55" but one shot brought it out to just under an inch group. That was probably me as I'm just getting used to the rifle and light trigger. I'm happy if I can shoot .75". That's about my level. I thoroughly cleaned the barrel and shot it's second 5 round group today. I think this is the best group I have ever shot :) The first clean bore shot was out of the group as is expected BUT the next 4 shots are the best I've ever done with any rifle.
I love this rifle!!!
Right now I have a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 on it because that's what was in my safe. I also have the CGS Hyperion 7.62 suppressor on it. I'm using a Harris bipod attached to the sling stud and a sand bag on the rear.
I am using 100gr ELD-VT ammo that I loaded for my BCA AR10 6.5cm. I have not done any tuning to the load for the Impulse.
I would like to get a 22 Creedmoor barrel for it but it's gonna be hard to take this one off.
It's unfortunate that the bolt seems stiff at first and this will hurt it's sales to anyone who picks one up in the store and cycles the action. They will likely get the impression that it's not a smooth action. However, after cleaning and oiling everything, then cycling the action several time I realize that it's super smooth. Especially when you have it mounted to your shoulder like it would be when shooting. It doesn't seem to be as smooth when holding the gun at waist level and cycling the action. It must be the angle that I'm pulling at. It cycles AWESOME when mounted to my shoulder or sitting on the bench so that's most important.
Sorry about the picture being sideways, It's straight on my computer. I even tried rotating it to the right and saving it on my computer then uploading that but it still shows it rotated to the left.

Very Nice.
All new firearms need to be broken in and smoothed out.
Nothing unfortunate about it, just the nature of the beast.
Wait till you see how smoothe it becomes after a couple hundred or thousand rounds cycled through it.
Not many shoot groups like your's out of the box though.
Do you have a trigger pull gauge to see what your pull weight is ?
My two Predator's and the others I've handled came from the factory with great triggers that didn't need adjusting.
Savage definitely hit the ball out of the park with the Impulse, but the Predator model with the AICS magazine feature is a game winning home run.
Now all we need is a stock manufacturer to make a carbon fiber stock for it !
SJC
True, most mechanical devices do get better after a break-in time.
I don't have a trigger pull gauge. Best I have is a Rapala digital fish scale. Testing it several times it appears to be close to 1.5lbs. I probably should have left it set to factory specs to see how I liked it but since the impulse can be adjusted without removing the stock I just turned it all the way down.
