Charlie, the level is heavy enough that it was actually moving the bubble by a slight shift... so I think the smaller levels would be not quite as sensitive. I am hoping its a good scope, spent 3 times what the rifle is worth. I also need to get the magazines to feed correctly.

LOL, yep, that'll do it. And, yeah, the scope won't be the weak link in the chain. Can't help with the mags.

An earlier post I mentioned jamming Bergers. I just got around to trying some in my 6.5CM (140gn VLD). If I seat them to jam there is not much bullet bearing surface inside the neck. So, I am jumping them quite a bit. Berger suggested trying .040, .080 and even 0.1" jumps. Well, they were right, it works. I am between .080 and .100 right now.

I also got some 73gn BT Tgt bullets for my .223 and they recommend a shorter oal. Again, it seem to work with them as well. Got several 0.1" and 0.2" groups with them during load development.

Short answer is, try a wide range of jumps to see what your gun likes.

I don't think it's the length of the level that is causing the sensitivity :)

Using the Starrett is like using a micrometer vs a wood ruler :) Haven't used one since I left the test range. Used it for setting the large optics so we could get them close enough to align the laser.

Assuming that is a model 98 and pointing out that they are sensitive enough to measure .0005" per foot if they are calibrated(very easy to do). Nobody in your state will be as level as you. With a flashlight and a plumbob you might compete with the top in the country! LOL i never even considered pulling mine out. Oh well, those days are gone now.

With a flashlight and a plumbob you might compete with the top in the country! LOL i never even considered pulling mine out. Oh well, those days are gone now.

.0005 per foot is .375” at 900 inches of bullet drop.
