    110C-H serial #126091

    My dad had this 243 from the 70s as far as I can remember. Im looking fir the twist rate on it and struck out with Savage Arms. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    It's older than 70s since no alpha character precedes first digit of serial number. If all original, look at the barrel for an oval stamp with 2 digits and a letter, the letter will tell you what decade rifle was manufactured.

    1957 = I
    1958 = J
    1959 = K
    1960 = M
    1961 = N
    1962 = O
    1963 = P
    1964 = Q
    1965 = R
    1966 = S
    1967 = T
    1968 = U*

    (* used only until Savage started adding an alpha character preceding serial numbers in compliance with the 1968 Gun Control Act. See this article if your rifle does not have an oval barrel stamp as described above).

    Don't know twist rate but you can get very close using a tight fitting patch and marking your cleaning rod. ;-)

    Appreciate the help. The scope is in the way but I can see a 8V and an SP and another oval directly under the scope that is illegible. Looks like Im going to try the hands on method.

    The SP means "Savage Proof" validating proof testing prior to leaving factory. Is left side of receiver stamped "Chicopee Falls, Mass. USA"?
