After 2 days on and off tinkering with the sticky safety issue, I took the barrel off the Boyd's stock (again) and compared it (again) to the Savage synthetic barrel. The most obvious thing to me was the bottom of the safety is smooth plastic, and the top of the safety slide on the Savage stock is plastic. Hummm...plastic against plastic I thought to myself.
I found a thin piece of slick plastic (took the top plastic label holder from a hanging file folder) and cut a paper template, then cut the plastic to fit. I popped the plastic in place, reinstalled the barrel...and presto...the safety slides back and forth like butter.
Now, after sanding the left side of the barrel channel to match the right side, the gun is ready to go back to the range and get dialed in.
I did receive a call from Boyd's and after explaining the issue to the Tech, he told me to write his name down and if I had ANY issues with the modifications to the stock, they would still honor the warranty. Nice to know that.
If I can only find 25 grain ammo...nothing available in the Tampa area.
