I recently purchased a Savage 12 LRP and I realized I had no idea what sort of base it takes for the scope mount.
Any info?

I've been happy with a Weaver Multi Slot base. Which one you get depends on the rifle configuration: long action, short action, Accustock, Accutrigger. I like it because it can be used for any type of sight that can be rail mounted with quick release of the scope. The size of the scopes's objective end will make a difference on the rings, too.
Here's a photo of the base on a Savage 16FCSS, .223, short action, Accustock, Accutrigger. The scope is Weaver 800360 First Focal Plane Tactical 4-20x50 Mil-Dot. The rings are Weaver 6-hole 30mm Tactical.
The Weaver works great and so does the Evolution Gun Works Slotted rail.

Weaver & EGW & more from from Midwayusa.
I have EGW & weaver slotted 1pc bases on all my Savages.
I have the EGW on one Savage and the Weaver on another. The EGW is slightly higher and gives better access to load the magazine (Hinged floor plate on mine. Won't matter if you have the DBM) but the Weaver is much less expensive. They both work well.Originally Posted by 5spd
I have 3 Ken Farrell 1 pc bases,1 Weaver,and 1 EGW.
I like the Ken Farrell bases best, but they are pricey. The Weaver is also a nice base,I just put the EGW on my 300WM and haven't used the rifle since I rebarreled it.I'm waiting to get some rings, whenever Burris decides to ship them to my dealer.
Much appreciated, thanks for all the replies!
If your going to shoot way over there with that rifle you might look at a 20 MOA base from EGW or Ferrell's. It will help you get to a 1000 yds or better by not forcing you to use up all of your vertical adjustment in the scope.
+1, I had to do that with my 6.5X47 Lapua.Originally Posted by Russ

For fitting, any Savage round/round two piece base will work. For one piece bases it will take standard round/round short action base. The EVW is a good value. Remember, shorter screws go up front.Originally Posted by Sean68
