Does anyone know for a fact what the barrel twist is on the Axis Hardwood for a 6.5 Creedmoor caliber? Savage doesn't always have the twist listed, and where I have seen it listed it is anywhere from 1:8 to 1:12. I certainly do not want a 1:9.5 or 1: 12 for a 6.5 Creedmoor. Right now am leaning towards the Weatherby Vanguard S2 because of the 24" barrel.
All of Savage's 6.5 Creedmoor barrels are 1-8" twist.
I have an S2 and it is very finicky and I hate the long take up on the two stage trigger.
I have two S2 Wby (one is a WBX ,now discontinued), and I really like mine. I have no issue whatsoever with the S2 triggers, and the Wby composite stocks are probably, without exaggerating, about a million times nicer than the Savage synthetic stocks. I have Savage accustocks, wood stocks, and synthetic stocks; the synthetic stocks for the most part are just junk.
I have a Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor. The barrel is not a bull barrel, but it is heavier than the standard hunting weight, the barrel is 22 inches long. The rifle weighs 6.6 pounds. The twist is 1:8 and the barrel is threaded for whatever you decide to use, brake or suppressor.
Although I have access to 1000 yard range, at my age (70) I prefer to shoot in a little closer. With a Burris Droptine scope on it(4.5-14X42), and my own handloads, I consistently hit 3" by 3" plates off the rail at 400 yards. I couldn't ask for more.
Comparing apples and oranges, I also have a Savage Axis, with a timney trigger and heavy factory barrel in 22-250 with the same scope on it and for accuracy, using comparable yardage 100, 200, 300 etc., the Ruger outshoots the Savage. Just sayin.
OP (Willy)...the barrel length will give you just a hair more velocity, but won't affect accuracy.
