• Two Different Center-feed Inlets for Bottom Metal

I wanted to demonstrate to some of the guys out there that want to buy a stock and bottom metal and may purchase the hardware separately or from possibly two different sources. I will try to get a few more pictures up in this post but to get started I have this. Notice the difference between the two. The one on the left will work with both inlets but the one on the right will need to be modified to fit an inlet for the one on the top. These particular ones are for long actions but this holds true for short actions as well. The Hinged Floor Plates I have seen are as the top

I had just seen a few posts lately about the issue and thought this knowledge would help. I will try to get pictures of different trigger guards and the inlet for side bolt release and the one for the bottom.

Top? Has the photo been rotated? Is left top? Very confusing.

I too am a little confused with the picture. I was thinking the right one was top. Great timing on this article, I'm about to order a bottom metal to replace my plastic that's on there now (trophy hunter xp). Do you know which one that savage currently sells now? Or are they both available and fit different models?
I've acquired 2 different part numbers for this part.
The first I found on this site that was given a couple of months ago to someone who also was upgrading their plastic to metal.

      FRAME ASSY SHORT MATTE (DBM)
      PART NUMBER: 106238
      $68.00

Then Savage customer service gave me this
FRAME ASSY, SHORT MATTE NBR (DBM)
      PART NUMBER: 106705
      $78.00

Anybody know what the difference is and what NBR stands for? Maybe different finishes? I need the blued

I want to thank you for doing this but could you expand a little? I have talked to Savage and Boyds and get two different answers. Savage said Boyds is respondsiible for telling me which bottom metal they used for inleting the stock and Boyds told me to order the bottom metal from Savage that they would know the part numbers. Savage was a little more help in that they cross referenced the parts I needed to a Model 10. I have a 16 Trophy Hunter XP. Also said that if they didn't work I could ship them back. I just wish someone could tell me exactly what i need.

I just ordered 106705 referencing my 10 Predator Hunter Max 4.4 bottom bolt release serial number that is blued steel. (not received yet) The dimensions are identical to my 10 Trophy Hunter 4.4 bottom bolt release plastic. The Predator has an Accustock and the Trophy a walnut.

Be aware that the "tab" on the rear of the frame assemblies (front TG/rear action screw) has evolved as well.
Older tab is taller to match the older narrow TG ; newer tabs are shorter to match the fatter TG which has a raised tab on the front. From what I have seen this corresponds to the bottom bolt release parts in the TG.
In my experience the plastic parts (frame and TG) are all the later design.
The $68 frame assembly is what I bought tor the side bolt release DBM setups I did with the older narrow TG.
The $78 frame is what I got for my bottom bolt release rifle.
Here is a picture showing the TG's :

Hmmmm, maybe NBR means "new bolt release"...
Good a guess as any I think.

Here are some serial numbers to search and relevant part numbers:

      G891791 111FHNS LA Matte Blue 270 Win 105877 (HFP)

NBR in the part name probably means "new bolt release." The older side release bolt guns all use the 106238 frame assy. The 106705 is for the bottom bolt release.

Just to make this more confusing, I have a 10FP with a side bolt release and centerfeed blind magazine (ref S/N G901951). My trigger guard looks like what Stockade has labeled "New Style Trigger Guard" but it does not have the hole for the new bolt release. The part number is the same as shown for S/N G800191 in the part finder. The G800XXX's are when all Savage rifles were side bolt release. My trigger guard does not look like the one in the diagram displayed for my rifle in the parts finder.

So it looks like the trigger guard for some blind magazine, side bolt release guns will work with the new NBR style frame assy.

I plan to contact Savage - but - thought I might embellish my knowledge by posing question here also....................

Plan to build rifle (.308) McGowen bbl - boyd's blank. Want to inlet & install bottom metal for removable mag as per Savage mod 10 tactical (FCP-SR)

I can handle inletting just fine. Want FACTORY part(s). Any good advice among the bunch about dealing with Savage / procuring part(s) indicated?

I ordered all my mag parts on line ; A little slow getting out the door (3 or 4 days) but no surprise there considering their volume.
      Reasonable flat rate shipping.
The key is whether parts are in stock...
BTW : Boyds now has stocks already inletted for Savage DBM's.

multitoes, does Boyd's have the bottom metal to go with the stocks? Or where did you order your bottom metal. I have a Model 10 223 I would love to put a DMB on and might change the stock.

      Thanks for your help,

      Dennis

I think the 10 FCP-SR may use bottom metal from Accurate Mag. You can order it direct from Accurate Mag. PTG has less expensive AICS compatible bottom metal available.

Dennis: go to the Savage Arms web site under Store > partfinder. Put in a serial number from the list I posted above which has the bottom metal you want. You can pick which parts you want and order online.

The metal bottom parts are 100% nicer than the plastic ones. They weigh 7 ounces more.

Boyds sells the stock inletted for the one on the right which actually seems to be for a hinge plate. They say it is for a DBM, but my 106238 is not a direct drop in.

The only way I'm going to be interested in changing to a steel floor plate and trying to sort this mess out will be if it improves accuracy. So, does it?
