  1. Notice: Effective 8/30/2025 I will be shutting down this site. After 24 years of operation the time has come. This is a decision I have been facing for the past 6-8 years now as both user interaction and revenues have continued to decline, and keeping it open just doesn't make fiscal sense at this point.

    Dates to Note:

6/1/2025 - Paid Subscriptions and New User Registrations have been disabled

8/1/2025 - New posts in the classifieds will be disabled

8/30/2025 - This site will shut down and no longer be accessible

    Axis Trigger Shim Mod (Non-AccuTrigger)

Today, i was handling my axis w/ the bolt out and i noticed that there was a lot of side to side play and wiggle with the trigger. So, what i did was take out the pin that the trigger pivots around and i put a tiny stainless steel washer on one side of the trigger. And, when i put my gun back together, the wiggle was greatly reduced, and when i dry-fired it, I realized that it did make the break of the trigger noticeably cleaner.

As most of you are aware, the Axis can be quite the little shooter. With a little work anyone with even marginal skill can do, it'll be worthy of a bipod or it can be rested on the forend without the stock touching the barrel. I've modified several of these & it gets easier each time. The procedure I'm going to explain will cost the average Joe about $15 & takes about 2 - hours to complete.

On my eleventh birthday, I received a Savage 110 in 270 Winchester as my first centerfire rifle. I received this rifle from a man unrelated to me, but was like a father to my dad and a grandfather to me. I got my first buck that year with it, on my father's birthday - only took me 4 shots to get one hit with all that buck fever. ...

The rifle started its life out as a bland 30-06. For a hunting rifle, accuracy was everything expected out of a savage producing about .5 MOA at 100 meters. However, I wanted a rifle that was much more precise for longer range target shooting. I chose the classic 7mm Remington Magnum for the cartridge. I also wanted a rifle that had less felt recoil than a 30-06. ...

    Fixing Weak Primary Extraction

I purchased a left handed "tactical" bolt handle and have a few questions. I am installing it on a previously owned mdl 10 flp that it appears may have been sold due to primary extraction problems. The rifle is virtually unfired and will not reliably extract cases with the original or new bolt handle (bolt lifts fine but will often not pull straight back...cleaning rod, light tap, drops the bolt back). There are no pressure signs on fired brass. ...

Here are some data points I think are useful and could be incorporated as a sticky. Since there have been a lot of recent discussions about firing pins, I thought I'd consolidate different data in one thread.

I'm in the midst of this build on a model 11 action with stagger feed blind .223 sized box, here is what i have found so far. The tiny lil 17 round looks very lost in the .223 mag, but mine feeds like a champ. I have the copper colored extractor, it's dropping the loaded rounds before they can be pulled back far enough to eject. ...
