  1. Notice: Effective 8/30/2025 I will be shutting down this site. After 24 years of operation the time has come. This is a decision I have been facing for the past 6-8 years now as both user interaction and revenues have continued to decline, and keeping it open just doesn't make fiscal sense at this point.

    Dates to Note:

6/1/2025 - Paid Subscriptions and New User Registrations have been disabled

8/1/2025 - New posts in the classifieds will be disabled

8/30/2025 - This site will shut down and no longer be accessible

    Center-feed Magazine Timeline

    Published on 01-28-2013 08:59 AM
    Article Preview

Below is the timeline in which Savage made the change from the old stagger-feed magazine system to the new center-feed magazine system. The change-over was drawn out over the course of four years which in many cases makes it difficult to say whether any particular rifle equipped with a blind magazine from those years would have a staggered or center-feed magazine. ...

    Technical specifications

The Picatinny locking slot width is 0.206 in (5.23 mm). The spacing of slot centers is 0.394 in (10.01 mm) and the slot depth is 0.118 in (3.00 mm).[4] The only differences between the Picatinny rail and the similar Weaver rail are the size of these slots and the fact that they are standardized.

For some, threadlockers are a mystery. For others, they are an everyday tool. Often known by simply their color and the generic (but trademarked brand) name "Loctite," they provide a way of keeping threaded fasteners from vibrating loose. This article attempts to explain (without going into excruciating detail) how threadlockers work, discusses the three basic types of threadlockers and their respective uses, and also provides information on what brands are available for retail purchase. Links to manufacturer's websites are included.

Well, where do I begin? I guess we’ll start low and work our way up to the last 99 offerings.

First off is the model 1895, this is an easy one to identify, it will have a serial number under 10.000 and the pads on the sides of the receiver will be rounded instead of pointed like the model 1899’s and 1895’s. The forearm is very slender and rises to the receiver very sharply. Underneath the barrel you’ll most likely find a J or JM signifying that it was made by John Marlin who built the first 5000 rifles for John Savage. ...

Two issues can be cause by front scope mount screws that are to long.

    1. If the front screw is to long it will bottom out on the threads of the barrel shank. When this happens, the screw will feel as if it's properly torqued down to secure the base, but in reality the base will still be loose.
