You'd have to be a really serious Savage Fan to pony up $2600 - $2800 for a factory rifle. I don't see them selling too many of these even with it being a straight pull bolt action.
The PRS production rifle class has a $2500 limit, so anyone buying one of these rifles can't shoot in the production class.

The day I spend $2.5 to $3k on a bolt gun is the day I buy myself a Sako 85 Bavarian, and that's not going to happen anytime soon as they discontinued the LH options on that model.

Its not that bad when you buy them a part at a time, and build them yourself. I've got 3 custom's in the safe, and another custom action coming in a couple weeks.

I've got well under $2k in my Nucleus/Bartlien/KRG Bravo custom not including the scope. Even if I didn't get the action at the pre-order discounted price it still would be under $2k, but not by much.

    I've got 10k in a Savage MSR 10, but that includes a Silencerco radius, a Q suppessor, and a $7k N-vision thermal. LOL. On barrel 3 now.

For the price, there are much lighter precision rifles available, but their all turn bolts.
The 6.5 chambered short action IEP rifle is listed at 13.7 Lbs, without optics.
If the IEP came with a carbon fiber barrel, it would be a better comparison to other comp rifles and most of those rifles weigh in at around 7 Lbs.
Top off a 7 lb rifle with a 2 lb optic and you have a rifle that you don't mind carrying around all day at a comp.
Top a rounded off to 14 lb rifle with a 2 lb scope and your at almost double the weight of a standard PRS comp rifle.
Since Savage has partnered with Proof barrels and offers other models with proof carbon barrels, why not offer a comp rifle with a proof barrel, so it can be comparable to other comp rifles in weight ?
Although it's a far cry from a 110 turn bolt rifle, most people still look at it as being a "Savage" with the usual quirks and not worth the high cost to purchase and customize.
Maybe in the future Savage will gets it's act together and offer these rifles at a better base price point, so when customized, the cost will be comparable to a custom build.
