    338 Lapua, 300 gr Scenar, w/Retumbo in 110 BA - Loading Goal

    Hi Folks

Got a chance today to start working up a standard load for my 338 Lapua (110 BA)... Like something similar to Lapua factory...

I would like to get a decent load with Retumbo and stick with it for a while, before trying other powder...

The Hodgdon reloading recommendations shows 85.0 to 94.0 grains... As I approched 90 grains I noticed minor sign of over pressure (flatten primers and slight fire pin flow)...

I can't see how any load can work over 90 grains without severe pressure signs...

Backed off to 89.7 and get a velocity near Lapua factory Ammo (2723)...

Here is my chronograph data... What are you folks getting with 300 gr Scenar and Retumbo in 110 BA???? Thanks

93gr Retumbo max. 94 gr and I have pressure problems.

I worked up loads with Retumbo from 89-94. 93 gave me the best accuracy of 1 MOA @ 1000 yards.

Hope this helps but beware...93 grs is a hot load

    Hi Gunsallin

I am planning to attend a long-range shooting course in the near future and need to get ammo ready.

I would like to establish a standardized load that does not show pressure signs. I have been thinking about using N570, but it is hard to get. My understanding is that it will only move the velocity forward by 100 pfs (maybe).

The Lapua Scenar 300 gr factory ammo shows 2723 fps from a 27" barrel. The Savage 110 BA has a 26" barrel which will likely reduce the velocity by something like 50 fps.

I need a standardized load so the ballistic computer will produce predictable results, since I will be changing distances.

What 1000 yard group performance did you get when you had a charge near the 89.7 grains?

Are you shooting the 110 BA also?

    Thanks

Have you measured your firing pin protrustion? Sometimes, this is a touch long on just about any factory rifle.

    Hi dcloco

Good idea, what is the specification for the Savge 110 BA?
