This may have been addressed in an earlier discussion, but I was not able to locate it.
I'd like a Mark II BTVS with the FVT (or similar) peep sight system on it. I called the repair/service shop and basically got a flat no... something about a rear mounting block. If that's true, it's really unfortunate. The thumb hole stock and stainless finish seems to call out for a club competition aperture setup.
Before I give up on buying a BTVS I'd like to understand the actual technical reason why this is not doable.

You will need to drill the two mounting holes into the receiver perpendicular to the scope mounting bases and the machined flat on the bottom of the receiver. To achieve this, remove all the components attached to the bottom, leaving the scope bases on for a clamping surface. Mark the drilling holes and use a #2 centering drill bit to get the hole started, preventing the bit from walking. Drill one and tap the first hole, the most forward one. Mount the base with the screw, them use it to mark the second hole location. Use the centering drill to mark the location, then remove the base and complete the drilling and tapping of the second hole.
You may have to cut a section of your stock to allow the base to be fitted to the rear of the receiver. On my BTVS shown below, you will see where I used a wood chisel to remove enough material to allow the bases and sight to be mounted.

All my rimfire rifles can use either a scope or a set of aperture sights.
AzizaVFR, have you shot that rifle from a sling? I am debating on buying that stock for my prone FVT and it is between this an buying a TR for the stock. Just looking for any advise on how that has worked out before I jump on a new TR.
From the looks of the forearm, the TR and thumbhole are the same in height and thickness. It would come down to your choice of having your thumb through a hole or over the stock. Look at the picture below. I took the two different models and place them exactly over each other.

You will note the thumbhole is just a little bit longer, a slight higher cheek area, along with a more forward sweep and smaller hand grip area. They are the same length of pull. Now you have to decide since you know how the original FVT stock fits you, here are a couple of overlays showing the FVT in the background with the BTVS/TR on top of it. Think about what fits you well now, and the areas you want to change/improve.

Wow, thanks for the effort. That overlap really helps a ton. I'm getting one of the seconds thumbhole stocks. It looks like it will give me exactly what I am looking for.
i just purchased a fvt mark I. i would also like to get a would stock that doesnt cost as much as another rifle. i am not very handy so i would prefer a first quality stock but cant seem to locate that on boyds site. any help would be appreciated. thanks bobn

Great explanation and photos. I'm working on a savage piston with Williams rear sight and a barrel band front sight. Is there a way to estimate the front sight base height. The barrel has a 3" straight .750" dia at muzzle, and is 15" long. Probably go with a Lyman front globe sight. This isn't a rimfire, but the fitting method is the same.
I figure to mount the rear sight, adjust it close to the middle of the range. Put the band on the front and figure a base height by trial and error. There must be a way to do it without buying 4 bases.
This is on a centerfire .223 cal model 12 left hand action, the rear sight screws to the base holes on the action.
