You should be able to use a push feed style bolt head. Check your mag length. You may be setting it up as a single shot unless its a RUM length action.
I'm looking at building a 338 Rum on a savage 111 action that I have laying around. I saw at the store today a 300 Rum rifle that had a controlled round feed action. My question is do you need to use that action or would mine work just fine?

Not to hijack but.... I was wondering can I go from 7mm Remington mag to 7mm Remington Ultra Mag?
It is set up as single shot so magazine not important. Is bolt head the same?
From what I could tell it would just be a barrel swap is this correct?
If you are a Single shot, then you are correct.Originally Posted by Kurtinokc

You can open up the feed port and extend the magazine on a long action to take longer cartridges
