    Ream to 250 savage ?

A 250 savage is on my "to build" list but
barrels in 250 seem hard to find. Could I
start with a used take-off barrel in 22-250
or 223 (which seem readily available) or any
other smaller round and have it reamed to
250 savage? If so, once I have the barrel, how much
should I expect to pay for a smith to ream it?
    Any recommendations for smiths?
    Thanks!

You're talking about different barrel calibers. 22 vs. 25

You could possibly re-chamber a 25 cal barrel of some sort depending on how much shank is left. Unfortunately, most widely available 25 cal barrels are 25-06 which probably wouldn't have enough shank left to chop off and re-chamber.

Lots of prefit options out there though: Shilen, Pac-Nor, ER Shaw, CBI, Mcgowen

ER Shaw would be the cheapest route with a blued chrome moly barrel being $205 plus shipping. Stainless would run around $230+ These barrels are on par with factory Savage barrels....maybe just a tad better.

A 250 Savage is a 25 Caliber, and you would need a 25 caliber barrel. If your asking about having a 22 cal barrel drilled and rifled to a 25 cal you would have a hard time finding someone to do the work, and the cost would be significantly higher than just going out and buying a 25 cal blank and having it chambered. The 22/250 is a necked down 250 Savage, therefore would be the same length as the parent cartridge.

Sharp Shooter Supply can provide fully contoured, chambered and threaded barrels for Savage actions in .250-3000 (aka 250 Savage).
