    Barrel install question.

When installing a barrel for head space, how do they get the words straight? Hope I'm explaining it right. Do they put the information on a different spot than the factory barrels? I assume they stamp the barrel after its installed at the factory. ???

What words, and what do they have to do with headspace?

Let me try again. Just for example, you use an extra thick recoil lug (remember example) and its twice as thick, the stamped words on the origanal barrel would be hidden under the stock. I must not be saying it right. If you get a new barrel, and thread it on, how do you get the stamped information such as .223 Rem only, in the right spot. Sorry for the confusion.

Luck will get it in the right spot. CBI barrels print the caliber several times around the circumference of the barrel, so you see it always.

None of my barrels have any words on them. ;D

The factory barrels did, but I don't keep them for very long.

The recoil lug doesn't affect the alignment of the markings on a Savage because of the barrel nut. You're talking about shouldered barrels like on a Remington. If you want the markings aligned you would mark it after install or index/set back/chamber it according to the action and stock if it was marked before hand.

so you have a barrel that says the information the correct way in 1 position, and then it says the barrel information incorrectly in many positions?
