    Homemade Ecaller meets Smartphone

A few years back I built a homemade Ecaller using a MP3 player and some sequences from Varmint Al's website. I found a plastic box at Walmart and built a carrying case for it. A little epoxy, silicone, Velcro, paint and it was done.

I recently purchased an Android Smart phone and found some great, free apps with different wildlife sounds. I found apps with sound files for Predators, Ducks, Geese, Elk, Deer, Turkey, Moose and an Anti Mosquito program(not sure if it works but hey it was free :) ) Sense I am not one to leave things alone I dug out the old ecaller and used it to boost the sounds.

I made three stands today, no dogs but it was fun to drag the frankencaller out for a while. It had PLENTY of volume and it will work under better calling conditions.

Does anyone make a bluetooth ear piece with a headphone jack? That would let you be wireless to 30m? and still control sound.

Nice job on that !! I've heard of people building them but never seen the up close view. Thanks for sharing. And the plus side is you can even call mosquito's with it...... ;D Tom

That would be a great idea, never thought of it. I tried a wireless mic setup but the cheap ones only have a range of about 10-20yards. The expensive ones were about the price of an entry level Foxpro so they did not pan out.

I like that setup. I may steal the idea of the box for my foxpro. I have the inexpensive ($200) Spitfire and it does not look weather resistant at all. Looks like if I got caught in the rain that it would be screwed. I might look for a little tuperware type container and modify it like you did. At least it would be slightly more protected.

Anytime. Just for the heck of it I turned it on last night at the house and had a few dogs on the near by hill talking to me....neighborhood dogs didn't care for it though. :)

For remote calling you could just set one call as your ring tone and another as your message alert, set your caller out where ever you want and have your hunting buddy call or text you to suit your needs.

That sounds like a good plan but would not work out for me. Everytime I would go out and set up it seemed half way through the stand someone whether it was my wife or kids or who ever else would start calling me. A lot of the times it would be my dad asking if I was hunting not soon after that was what I told him I was going to go do.
